MPG
« on: 11 April 2008, 22:47:46 »

Hi all,

Just wondered what MPG you guys  and gals are getting on your Omega's.

I'm after a diesel but there seems to be a severe lack of them so was wondering what MPG to expect on the 2.0, 2.5, 2.6 and 3.0 litre petrols. Saying that even what MPG on any of your diesels so I can compare purchase costs against running costs.

Around town MPG would be best but motorway MPG's would also be welcomed.

Thanks in advance  ;)

Hiya

2.5 V Plate, 62,000 miles the best MPG I saw on a run was 34 MPG doing 65/75 MPH

Arround the village where I live I would say 18/20 MPG

My last car allthough not an Omega was a 2.0 Diplomat Carton. Same route/distance on a run I got 42/44 MPG and arround the village 20/24 MPG. (Diplomat had the fuel computer which helped, certainly miss it on the Omega)

Both cars are auto's

it very much depends on what type of journeys you do and your driving style.i do mostly short journeys in my 2.5 and get about 23mpg. if you were doing a mixture of varying types of roads including some motorway driving i would guess at around high 20s for a 2.5.

I have a 3.2 and around town its about 24-25 and on a good moterway run can get 32-34 the best that i have had was about 40mpg with a very light right foot. All depends on how they are driven.

hope that it of help. Also if the car is well looked after and service this will have a big effect on mpg. :y

My 3.0 V6 i get about 25 to 30 MPG but i went for a play over exmoor a week or so ago and i did about 170 miles in a very nice afternoon and that cost me £55 but it was the best £55 i have spent in a long time. ;D ;D

My diesel will do 36MPG town and 45MPG on a run at about 75MPH.

several oof members have petrol cars with lpg conversions ,which would give performance and economical running costs.it could be worth looking for one of those,or if your mechanically minded you could convert a car after purchasing.

I am getting about 30MPG with my 2.0
I need to clean my idle control valve still, would this have any effect on the petrol consumption or is this is to nothing?

My 1998 2.5 TD Auto gets an average of about 29mpg even if I drive like an undertaker

Mostly short journeys though

My old diesel 405 Pug used to get 55 even when driving like it was stolen!

I reckon auto vs manual costs about 5 mpg for mixed driving (very little difference if any on mway).   2.0 or 2.2 with manual is probably closest to diesel economy (aside from LPG of course)

My trip computer says 19.8 just now, however with careful driving i can see over 40mpg on the motorway at about 60mph, but its not unusual to see single figures when overtaking.

Thank you very much but its so hard to keep to 75 even with cruise on cos the car is just asking to go faster and it sounds so good when you give it some. I am yet to work out what exhaust is on my car but it does sounds nice. Might ask markey mark to have a look as he is down this way at the weekend. ;)

My MV6 - just under 25mpg average, TD auto, MID reckons 37ish average.

The TD in particular shoots right up on motorways.

I'd absolutely agree with you there mate, in fact I think just about all omegas excel on the motorway. The petrols in particular seem to be poor around town. It goes without saying you'd get better economy with a manual box.

2.2DTi 130,000
average (around town) 42mpg
Motorway 48-50mpg
Towing 30-35mpg

Hi round town and short journeys to shops and back 20.5mpg
On motorway taking it easy 60mph  38mpg.
As previously said you cannot expect a big car with good mpg.
I got mine for sheer luxury and to fit all the camping gear in for weekends away.
Cheers  :)

My 2.5TD shows 33.4mpg as an average over about 2000 miles - mixed roads. Round town it gets about 20mpg. Cruising at 40-50mph is the best, can get around 40mpg if your careful. Motorway at 70-80 isn't bad probably about 35ish.

If you shift down and floor it, you'll be doing 7mpg no worries  :(

If you're interested in fuel consumption figures or any other general Omega performance data have a look at this spreadsheet. It is updated by members on OOF.

For some reason, the 'management' don't consider it worthy of inclusion in any sections so that it can be accessed readily by all members.  :-/
