« on: 05 October 2012, 08:54:01 »

hi all
went shopping last night at tesco we were in there for about 1 hour , came back to the car and she would not start battery was flat, so called the aa and which to my surprise they were there in about 30mins ,they managed to start the car with a booster pack ,they did a number of checks and they found that the alternator was banging out 17.8v and its cooked the battery
been in touch with vx and a battery and alternator from them is £230 less 60.00 when i take my old alternator back
does the price sound right
thanks

Cheaper to just replace rectifier.

However, given your location, I'd give that ugly Darth Loo-knee a call, see if he has a suitable alternator from one of his breakers. You could have it all back together today ;)

Maybe, but what voltage is the alternator banging out?

If its 17v, it will shag it all quite quickly.

Just fitted a new Vx exchange alternator to the Estate - cost £100 from Vx ("trade" on "TC"!!)
