My first car was a 1984 VW Polo. I went all over in that, I was never into mopeds.

My first car was a Ford 100E - never found out whether it was an Anglia or a Popular, and I don't know now when it was built.  Must have been pre-1960.

It had a sidevalve engine.  Which blew up - con-rod came through the side of the block, tappet embedded in battery.  I've still got the big-end shell somewhere - saw it the other day. :)

First CAR as against first transport ......  :)

1952 Morris Minor ..,  918 cc side-valve engine, top speed .. about 58 mph although I got 65 once down the hill at Birdlip ... :)  If it rained you had to keep taking your foot off the accelerator to make the wipers work ... they were vaccuum powered !! indicators were the silly little sticky out things -- forgotten the name -....

but .. BIG but ... it was MINE and was FREEDOM .. cost me £50 .. ( and I lost my virginity on the back seat  :y :y :y :y  )

 ::) ::) ::)

 8-)

I kind-of inherited it when my Grandad got a new car. No sign of losing anything in the back of it due to complete lack of street cred, of course but it wasn't a bad motor. Used to frustrate my housemate when it started first time every morning regardless of weather when his Fiesta would never start without AA assistance. ;D

First car/transport for me was a Viva HA van.

Learnt to drive in it.
Passed test 2nd time.

An hour after I passed it broke down, it had some dirt in the carb.  It allways had at least half a tank of fuel in it in those days (about £3 worth) so was relieved it was after the test and not during it.

i had one of these  same colour when i was 16, ss50  :)

Me too, first of the 50cc at 16, market suddenly flooded with super mopeds. £250.00 iirc in 1973, just bought a new 50cc scooter for step son £461.99.

I also had one of these when I was 16 although it wasn't my very first mode of motorised transport - that honour went to a Raleigh Wisp (anyone remember them?)

My Dads first car was the 100E, he has told me over and over the stories about the rear axle hop ;D Then he used to take his Grans Brand new Anglia out for a thrash to clear it out ::)
