Evening gays. I mean guys 

Every morning I turn the key in the omega. It splutters and doesn't start. Does this two to three times before firing.

Today I got in and primed the fuel system (turned the ignition on and off 5 times) and it fired straight away.

Am I correct in thinking this is a bad check valve in the fuel pump draining the pressure away overnight?

I shan't bother to replace it cos it runs fine as soon as it's started. But just wanted to know I'd got it right from a diagnosis point of view

Why guess when there's a perfectly good test port on the fuel rail?


Or you could try turning the ignition on without starting the car until the pump finishes priming the system. Do that a couple of times and see if it fires up immediately.

Did the latter nick and as mentioned before it fired right up 

Checked fuel pressure whilst running and it's bang on spec so pump itself working fine.

So agreed it's the check valve?

Does it even have one? That's why the pump is set to prime the system; something which goes back to K-jet all those years ago!


It might be worth removing the pump from the tank and checking that the 'filter' on the inlet is still viable.

Interesting. O if it doth not have one then it could be a weak pump even though it's running ok?

Yes, sorry, re-read your original post properly!


Mine does this occasionally, usually when the fuel level could be better. I suspect the pump is coming to the end of its life, but at 175k miles and 15years this is reasonable wear and tear. I'll replace it when(if!) the problem becomes more consistent.

Yeah it's doing it every morning. But it doesn't annoy me so much that I'll replace it just yet 

Out of interest are aftermarket ones ok or GM recommended?

Ps, should I fancy swapping the pump out do I get to this point. . .
