My mum works part time and when she comes home she loves nothing more than to feed the birds when she comes home. Since moving she's always fed then and she's attracted some really interesting ones in to the garden. A blue jay, a gold finch, couple of robins etc. the usual suspects are wood pigeons.

If someone knocked on the door and told her to stop feeding them I would laugh in their face and shut the door.

End of.  :y

Wonderful creatures aren't they Webby. We've had Gold Finches and usual small birds pinching the the soft cotton stuff off the pampas grass in the garden for their nests. Blue tits nesting in a the wall of the house after we removed an old over flow pipe.

We'd feed them if it wasn't for the cats. :)

Look at it this way Chris  ::)
Cat food is more expensive then bird food.
Buy the bird food and then open the door and let the cats feed on the birds  :y ;D
Less bird shit, cats love you forever and you save a few quid too  :y :y ;D ;D

Its all well & good feeding birds in your garden, but we need to bear in mind that care needs to be taken to use a method which wont allow rats to access the food. Most of the country seems to be plagued with rats nowadays, and its never good to encourage them to feed (and then inevitably live) near houses.
