Hmm. There is something about the Senator that the Omega doesn't have... :-*

It's something from my youth about that cheese grater grille bearing down on you on the M3 in battenburg. "Here we go again"!

Looks very nice, if only I had a double garage , always wanted a Senator  cheap at £2-£3,000.

Used to always see burgundy unmarked plod ones on the M1 around Sheffield..... two or three aerials, two rear view mirrors and a camera along with the ability to see the blue strobes behind the cheese cutter grill didn't really do much for it being a covert car!

Even though my Senators have all been of the 12v CIH variety,I'd still take one over the Omega every day of the week, trouble is I'm a couple of grand or so short :D

I loved my ex-police Senators, but if not driven every day the forward mounted distributor and cheesegrater grill made them trouble to start in damp weather. Other failings were head gaskets, oil coolers and fuel pumps. They were very fast and smooth. My claim to fame was appearing on the cover of Straight Six News with four Senators. As the clutches failed I scrapped them and replaced them with Omegas, more reliable but slower and less exciting.
The OOF has taught me to change clutches. Now I have owned a 3.2 police special for 10 years, longer that any Senator.

I had a 12 valve Senator followed by one with 24 valves ...... the difference in performance was very noticeable.  :y

hang on, type 222021320662 into ebay  - this £490 sold listing looks very similar to the £3,500 auction one.  nice profit for a wax and polish, new plates, fancy photoshoot and an MOT :o

If I had seen that at the time - at that price- I would have bought it. Although I suspect a lot of other people would have done the same.
I loved my 24v Senator, and have always had the idea of another one in the back of my mind.
Would have to convert to digidash though. Its a must. 8)

I'm sure tunnie and I proved that a bog standard 3.0l auto Omega could outrun a 24v Senator.  Not oodles in it to be fair, but the Omega definitely won, even with a failed HG ;D

Presumably the Senator was being driven by Tunnie ,who according to many posts on here drives like Miss Daises great granny ?  ::)
I have driven many V6 Omegas  and Im pretty certain My 24v Senator would have outrun all of them.   :)

He was flat out. It was a straight piece of (private, obviously) tarmac. I'd always maintained, after removing the rose tinted glasses, the Omega was quicker, although tunnie anf others always disagreed. That was our opportunity to prove it.

I reckon the multiram's smoothness over the 24v dual ram made the Omega seem less anxious.

wikipedia says the 24V 3.0 senator engine had 201bhp, 3.0 migs have 214bhp. senator slightly lighter.  apparently there was a 4.0l one though, 268bhp :o.

Well...as Harry Hill says ''there's only one way to settle this''  So why not arrange something like they have up at Bruntingthorpe where we can rag the cars and have a day out, or a RWYB at Santa Pod which would probably be better for accurate timings and a flat out run over the quarter, car on car :-\ :y

Yes.....I can't see how an MX5 loaded down with a boot full of 'hairdressing paraphernalia' can defeat a healthy 3.2 Omega over a distance of more more than 100 yards.

Perhaps it was all a fix, and the Omega in question was a sickly 2.2 or even Omega derv. ::) ::) :)

Let's get it sorted,I would like to see wether my remapped 3.2 is really putting out the claimed 240 ponies that's on the RR printout.....probably not, but it's pretty lively just the same :y Don't want to take a knife to a gunfight ::)

I had a Senator for a Europe tour I did, great cars. Loved the S6 engine from a DIY point of view, I found it far easier than V6. Actually enjoyed working on it, and no cambelts to worry about  :-X  ::)  ;D

There is an ABS member who is looking into putting a 12V engine into an Omega as he prefers the bullet proofness of that engine over the 24V unit
