Engine oil change
« on: 19 May 2016, 12:57:32 »

  Another topic:

I plan to shortly do an engine oil change (Omega 2.2 petrol, 2003, auto).

Just wondered what the current thinking is on using engine flush for the 2.2 petrol ?

I do not flush my 2.2s, nor any other Omegas. However I always drain the oil hot, removing the drain plug and allowing 15 minutes to fully empty. I change the filter every oil change. I change the oil every 4000 miles.

Using an engine flush can be risky.  Basically it all depends how clean the engine is in the first place, the engine flush does a good job but all the crud it loosens ends up blocking the oil pick-up and starving the engine of oil, on the other hand I know of some people who use it regularly and the engine is very clean and has never been allowed to become dirty.
What I do is run some 10/40 for 100 miles and sometimes do it again then put the oil in that I want until next service. I also change the oil every 3-3500 miles and all my engines look like new inside including one that's done 140,000 miles.

Can't beat regular oil changes.

Rather than an engine flush, if the oil is manky, just do some quick changes, eg every 1000 miles for a couple of changes...

agreed, or if you really want to clean it now do a change with cheaper brand oil and change it again with nice stuff.

ok, thanks all for the advice.

Will probably do a follow up oil change in a couple of thousand miles, no engine flush !  :y
