I thought the ProjectMV6 just needed a new plastic washer to stop the click of death but I  now think it is going to need a bead of weld around the plate on the A pillar.

Is there anything in the door pillar that I need to move out of the way ? or is it safe to crack on and do a quick weld?

Given that the gearbox and central locking/alarm ecu live behind it, not to mention the door loom, I would suggest caution

Remove the sill trim, kick panel and vent/cubby assembly and move the ecus/wiring to one side is a minimum

iirc, there's also some foam blocks stuffed in there...

Of course, the bodgeitandscarper approach would be to simply pull the door rubber away from the pillar and slot an 18" piece of ply/pane of glass in its place and crack on
