2.2 Sport -What are they like
« on: 01 April 2017, 09:40:52 »

There is a 58k example for sale which looks in very nice condition, the finding of a decent mileage and condition Elite (which has been un-molested) is now I fear long gone so i need to find an Omega which is in the best overall condition i can find. Anyone had the ' Sport ' ?

Slow, but it looks like a Wannabe MV6.

Being a 4 Pot Desmond, I guess they could be tweakable and maybe installation of a Turbo an option to give it a few more legs  :D

I recall somebody putting the 2.0 Turbo engine in ?  Or maybe I was dreaming ?

The thought was certainly there :y

They aren't as bad as the 2.2 bit suggests... actually handle really well, and whilst not fast in a large v6 way they make good progress... the four pot is a rev happy engine and with the Sport chassis, can be rewarding to drive.

Also they don't have the speed variable power steering, so have a nice weight to the steering... certainly if one came up and I was looking I would give it some serious consideration,  probably with a view to adding a turbo if it were a manual ;)

Thanks for the info, i agree it does have an MV6 kind of look, given the Omega's age now and the rather patchy rust treatment of the model the condition of the car is crucial and up to now all i am able to find are car's with a ' story '  :'(

I will see if i can get up to the dealer and take a look, ta.

Rust is a major consideration,as its a major problem to cure. I'm a bit bemused however by the concern people have about mileage.
My 3.2 has 175k miles on the clock, but its a well cared for example and looks and drives like a car with half the mileage.
Good condition and proof of good servicing / maintenance is much more important then how many miles are showing on the clock.
I would never give up on a v6 and opt for a four pot, just because of the mileage involved.

As MigV6 says, V6 mileage is never an issue.  Even a very low mileage car will now need some suspension bushes etc, purely on age.  The V6 engines are very robust, and not prone to wear.  Its unlikely the engine on my 232k 3.0l MV6, but bodywork/chassis rust.

The 2.2 manual GLS estate I had felt so quick compared to my current 3.2 auto. but the way they all seem to rust in the same places after ten or so years  (front and rear chassis legs, sills and of course rear arches mainly is depressing when the rest of the car is so sound but that's cars for you.
