very clean  :y

That coolant looks old? looks like the blue type.

Flush that out, not just replace, flush! With Vaux Red anti-freeze.

Old coolant is the biggest enemey of the 2.2, get some red in there. And personally i would change it every year!

Depsite the 5 year warrenty  :y

Fresh anti-freeze and 3k oil changes will keep it going for a long time  :)

Cheers Tunnie, the coolant is new and I have thoroughly flushed the system but this was before I learned that red is best  ::)
I will re-flush and refill with red when I do the cambelt and waterpump later this year  :y

Good plan  :y

Thats not GM coolant then?

My dads 2.2 was dealer service all its life, HG went at 97k. Down to old coolant.

Its the biggest cause of HG failure on the 2.2's.

Also keep the breathers clean, that little pipe that runs from the throttle body to the front of the cam cover... always gets clogged.

Been changing the oil on mine every 1/2 k for the past 6k

Feels sooo much better, and at £10 for GM oil and filter, cheap too  :y

No not GM coolant but something I picked up from Unipart (Partco)

I have cleaned the breathers once in the last 6 months, how often do they need to be cleaned?

Yes I agree I must change the oil more regularly especially now the Vx oil is so cheap, just finding the time  ::)
