Attention Bikers!
« on: 02 September 2006, 20:39:29 »

It seems there are several bikers or ex-bikers in our midst.

I had a short biking career which was prematurely cut short when I got married for the first time.

Lets see who you are and what you've had/got.

I'll start.

1979  Yamaha FS1E.  Learnt to ride on this.

1979  Suzuki AP50.  Learnt how engines (?) work by stripping it several times.  Stripped/repainted.

1980  Yamaha RD250.  Stripped to the bone.  Repainted/rebuilt.

1981  Yamaha RD400.  Wonderful 2 stroke with actual low down torque.

1982-1986  Suzuki GS550E.  My pride and joy for years.  Stripped/ rebuilt.  Took the future Mrs Hillper on this wearing short skirt and winklepickers.  (Can't remember what she was wearing).

1984  Suzuki RG500 Gamma.  100bhp in a feather light frame.  Fastest, scariest thing I've ever encountered.  That soon had to go.

1986  Got married and that was the end of my biking career.

I really want to start a bike project, but it's going to have to wait until I move next April.

I'd like to rebuild a 1983 Suzuki GS1000.  The bike I never quite owned.  Only 85bhp and questionable handling, but I want one!

I love the bikes from the 80's, especially the 2 strokes.

97 Yamaha TDM 850
After not riding for 20 years I didn't want a really fast bike. 135 top is fast enough for the bike & a ton is more than fast enough for me. Besides, a lot of the bikes I sat on had my knees up around my ears - & I'm only 6'

PS have you seen the price of fizzys on eBay? :o

That brought the ol' farts out!

All the bikes I owned are worth a fortune now.  Especially the RG500.

I borrowed a TDM850 for a while.  Huuuge great thing!  Lovely low down torque.

I have a BMW R100RT used daily for the commute to work in London. Can't beat the old air cooled boxer, loads of spares, no chain to adjust everything very simple.
