engine revs unstable

on idle my 2.5 v revs are unstable, bouncing from about 500 to 800 rpm. any ideas how to stop this. thanx

Like already said try your idle control valve first which looks like a small horizontal can on the passenger side of the plenum (big alloy thing on top of the engine which says Ecotec on it).
Air leaks can be a problem to find depending on how many monkey mechanics have had there paws around it.
Try the icv and go from there mate   :y
