Engine RPM vs. road speed (AR25 on a 1996 diesel)
« on: 14 July 2010, 12:17:55 »

Just a quick question - it occurred to me this morning that I don't think the box is 'locking' the torque converter.. Or rather I think it might try and fail (the RPMs dip and pop back up like it's changed gear and back again).

So.. does anyone else have a pre-facelift (if the diff changed?) 2.5 TD with an AR25, and can tell me what the RPM is at a constant 70mph on the motorway (when the box should have locked up)?

Thanks!

Perfect, thanks Ian! I think mine is more like 2500 at 70mph, so perhaps the 'box is due a service since the car has clearly towed a caravan at some point in it's life.

A job for the weekend :) (One when I don't mind getting covered head to toe in stinky ATF!)

It should lock up at 50-55mph depending on how hard your foot is on the gas :y

Yeah I thought I remembered reading that.  This morning on my way to work I noticed it 'bounce' in and out of lock up with very light cruising at probably 50-55.

Probably a stuck/sticking solenoid I imagine, and at ~100k it's due a change & flush anyway which might just cure it. Worth a shot before I start pulling solenoids, anyway :)  Ta!
