General Discussion Area / Rehashed
« on: 04 November 2012, 11:13:05 »
As read in this months Practical Classics magazine,a couple of items rehashing old ideas.Firstly the government is considering[again]road pricing.Due to "falling revenues"from the road fund licence[now there's a misnomer!]they are considering doing away with it to introduce  this"new"idea. If they go ahead you can bet we'll all end up paying more than at present!Second thing,Reault are doing their own"scrappage"scheme and offering £3,000 off for your old banger.Other manufacturers are wanting the government scheme re-introduced to help them out.Renault I think are fairly well placed to run this scheme as they are[or were the last I heard]owned by the French government.

Step-daughter works at their computer repair place in Leeds, doesn't know how she'll fair at present.Usual thing nobody's saying anything to anyone, least of all the workforce that could be dumped at anytime!

Oh,come now are we all saying we don't believe him when he says it was a mistake?Think his only mistake was getting caught!!Seems now that he has resigned,so that makes it all alright,Idon't think so squire! The police apparently looked into this and decided to take no action but are now being "urged"to look at it again.Any poor working sod caught doing similar would have been instantly sacked, and been in court, and probably doing time for it.What makes them[and they're all at it]so different? All of those found to have made fraudulent expenses claims should have faced legal proceedings.

My son sent me a link to a news item. This related to a guy called Richard Herman,he got fed up with all the telesales phone calls he was getting so he started telling them he would charge them £10 a minute for his wasted time if they continued to call him.One company[unamed] continued to do so,so he invoiced them[he'd kept a log on his computer of calls/duration etc.]this they promptly ignored,so he took them to county court and WON!He got £195 awarded. He's now set up a website to advize others of how to go about doing the same.

General Car Chat / night setting?
« on: 31 October 2012, 18:37:07 »
Had a lady customer bring her new car back today for a "fault"fixing. She'd bought her first automatic after previously having manuals. When discussing her problem she said the car was fine until she selected the night setting on the gearbox and then it wouldn't go.Eh?night setting, what night setting? So she showed a mechanic what she was doing and of course she was selecting neutral, but had thought the N was for night time driving!!!

For those who've no idea who he is,he was formerly a T.V.sports presenter who turned to "religion".He has since been known to make some weird and wonderful claims, his latest came during an 11hr talk/sermon/whatever at Wembley at which  he claimed that we are all actually hollograms ruled by reptiles!!!!Now to me he obviously playeth not with a full deck! But in saying that where does this leave the 5,000 people who[presumably]paid good money to listen to this rubbish?!!!

All down to personal preference of course, but I would say the f/l cars are the better looking, but the earlier cars had a superior interior.

Looks good for the money, though it must be said not my kind of thing, but hey whatever floats your boat.Last good car Ford made[to me anyway]was MK1 Granada, particularly the Ghia coupe. But back to the Escort,Ithought when they were new,and I still think so,that the wheels/tyres look as though they belong on a different car, they're way too small!!Or is that just me?The Ka had what was basically an updated 1.3 Kent pushrod engine, the StreetKa[the soft top model]had a 1.6 to cope with the extra weight and was I'm told quite thirsty because of it.

Think about the only time the foglights[front or rear]are turned on on my cars is during the M.O.T.test!!

Well today is Trafalgar day,a fact which I think should be remembered better than it is.As in all battles/wars many good men[and there's a possibility women too]on both sides lost everything doing their duty,in the greatest fleet action ever seen, and certainly the last major action involving the "wooden walls".

Had a MK1 3500 manual once,a mate had the auto version, top gear in auto was the same as 4th in the 5speed manual,so mine cruised a lot easier than his did. Also had a MK2 2000 manual which was a lot better car than people give it credit for!P6 had rear seats shaped more for 2 people than a "proper"bench seat for 3,and the boot space was lousy on them unless you went for the bootlid mounted spare wheel[I had a series 2 2200sc]

Definitely needs some kind of oversight body to keep an eye on them all, keep getting caught with their mitts in the till, and they even get to vote their own pay rises too!!How goes the saying?"power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"Goes for our homegrown lot and that shower in the Euro parliament.
