Omega General Help / Grille
« on: 29 July 2012, 13:04:04 »
Can the black plastic slats be separated from the "chrome" surround on the grille of a facelift mig?Thinking of replacing slats with mesh inserts if possible.

Good news[I hope!].Just been out to fit new wiper blades, took opportunity to remove scuttle for clearance to back of engine, didn't have aclue what I was at,but pulled off re-attached all pipes that looked relevant, took apart any electrical plugs which may not have been making proper contact, and pushed 'em back together.Started car and it's run for above 1/2hr purring like a kitten, rock steady idle,so hopefully job sorted! I don't suppose I shall ever know if it was this or all the cleaner I've chucked down the icv that's worked, but I'm one happy bunny again!Tu.hanks to all for your input, couldn't have done it without yo

I am thinking of trying to research the history of my Omega, and would welcome any ideas on how to go about it,or indeed any input from anyone who might actually know the car.First registered 1st March 2000,with the reg W609 OAB[to what part of the country do those letters apply?]within a year it had gained a personal reg, which it lost at a later date and returned to it's original reg. From some old M.O.T. certificates and reciepts I know it spent time in Wolverhampton,Dudley and Leeds. When I bought it I picked it up from just outside Wellingborough.2009 saw it on its 4th registerd owner, and I am now the 8th.The car is a 3.0 Elite with the Traffic Master system fitted but no inbuilt sat nav,and is Graphite 2[that should be read as Roman numerals]Effect in colour. Can anyone help?cheers guys[and gals]

Nice bikes!Last bike I had was a'54 Ariel VB model 600 side valve single[never seen one before  or since!]bought as a project for 8 quid, cost me a quid to have it re-bored.Magneto ignition made life interesting when approaching bends on poorly lit roads at night!

Just bit the bullet and ordered new icv from the bay, will tell if that's the problem.Had a delve about can't see/here/find air leak but now I've ordered new icv it'll probably be an air leak somewhere I've missed!Curses! There's a valve type thing towards top front of engine on drivers side[is it the egr valve?]anyway there's a metal pipe going to it,and at the base of the big nut which holds this pipe to the valve it's blowing bubbles! This can't be right can it?Could this be the root of my problem?

Had a drive in one of those new Nissan Leaf things today.Ugly sort of beggar, eerily quiet though!Little lumpy joystick type affair for selecting which way you want to go,reverse, neutral, forwardand that's it.They say it's got a best range of  200 miles, don't know how slow you have to go to get that far,but it's supposedly limited to 120mph!Even if I got max range I'd still have to stop for a re-charge to visit my daughter in Hampshire.Pop the bonnet and you'll find they've made the motor look like a four pot engine so owners see something that at least looks familiar!Hellishly expensive too! They claim zero emissions, which is true as there are no exhaust fumes, but what of the extra pollution  from  the power stations when everyone plugs their leccy car in for a charge up?I hope they sell by the millions,it'll leave more petrol for my Omega and Jag!!But I'm afraid I won't be a customer.Oh,and the cost of replacement batteries, makes your eyes water!

I imagine the easiest/cheapest way to find a rough idea would be to arrange a rolling road day. This would at least give comparative brake horse figures etc.,a race day sounds much more fun though!

General Discussion Area / Re: self employment what a joke.
« on: 23 July 2012, 21:08:16 »
Self employment is I think a joke in any field.Be your own boss they say, work what hours you fancy, enjoy much time off they say. What a load of toffee! What they don't say is if you don't work you don't get paid,I'm talking here of bank holidays and the generally accepted 2 weeks hols. on the costa where ever that most take for granted as getting paid for.Well you can forget that for a start.8 bank holidays a year plus other hols have to be earned by grafting silly hours a week to make up for the "lost" time.I've been self employed for many years now and still don't get "proper"hols,as I'm busy thinking of meeting deadlines on contracts so I don't lose them or where I might gain fresh work if I lose present work. Then there's paperwork, accountants etc.to be dealt with, the list goes on!Why do I do it then?Simply I Know no other way and at my age I would find it very difficult to get "proper"paid employment!

I have managed to drop on a bit lucky perhaps, talking to a slight aquaintance today about it[not seen him for yonks]turns out he has a diagnostic/code reader gizmo, which he says he'll bring tomorrow and plug it into car to"interrogate"it.Hopefully this will if not pin point the problem at least it should narrow the field somewhat?

I'm new to this internet based stuff,so I hope you'll all bear with me here.Do you as a club attend classic[or other] car shows around the country? If so what criteria do you use for eligible cars?I'm asking because Maureen[my partner]and I enjoy attending such things with the Autobahnstormers, whose criteria are that apart from being club eligible the car most be road legal[assuming it's driven there]and clean, and that's it.So as I asked do you have similar?

No loss  of power/stalling when  it's above idle. While sat on the drive in park/neutral if I keep the revs upp at about 650 or so it'll run all day, plant the throttle and it'll sing to the redline without hesitation.Out on the road it'll fly like a bird, until coming to a road junction/traffic lights etc.,when it'll just die but at least it'll restart instantly si I'm not a mobile road block! To try checking for air leak I've sprayed a load of WD40 at it with the engine running as this usually alters the revs, but in this case it made no difference.

I'll try the paper clip route and more carb cleaner and see how that goes.If you add the drop of oil after refitting icv where do you put it?I've seen new icv's on e-bay at 27.70[including postage]these are an Alfa Romeo part but the numbers match and are said to be compatible, worth getting?or does anyone know different?
