ROYAL MAIL POSTAL SCAM - BEWARE
« on: 15 November 2006, 08:17:55 »

Just thought I'd post this to warn you folks, and maybe pass this on to you relatives etc., It has been confirmed by Royal Mail / Trdaing Standards; A card is posted through your door from a company called PDG (Parcel delivery Service), suggesting they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 09066611911 (a premium rate number); DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you call the number you hear a recorded message and you will have already been billed for £15.00 for the call..............cheeky buggers >:(

Should any one receive a card with the above details , you can contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655. :y

I have heard of a similar one. A pretty young lady will knock on your door late at night saying her car has broken down and her mobile is flat/no credit, can she use your phone to call her dad/breakdown services. When she dials the number it will be one of those megga expensive ones :o

If you watch "The real Hustle" on BBC Three you'll see that this sort of scam is not uncommon. Although a lot of the scams on this programme may not happen that often, its surprising how easy it all is.

They did one where they dressed as a courier, went into a city centre office and asked for a non-existent parcel, when the receptionist said that there wasn't one, they asked to use the phone to ring the depot. It was their own premium rate number. One of them spent the best part of 30 minutes on the phone "on hold" before the receptionist starting getting knarked. Do this all day and you'll be making more money than the average Lawyer.

These calls must be routed through BTs equipment. Wouldn't have thought it would take a great deal of effort for them to put a stop to it.

Not necessarily - may be cable etc line ;)

I know all UK telcos are reasonably good at shutting these lines down, but too easy to start up another...
