General Discussion Area / my dead polisher
« on: 04 August 2009, 17:59:34 »
Any clues as to what the black square is?

As you can see there were some scorch marks between it and the fuse holder.  :-? As suspected the corrrect 5A fuse blew straight away.
I know it's only a Halfords polisher but if I could easily fix it .......

General Discussion Area / Cable clips
« on: 05 August 2009, 20:24:02 »
Does anyone have a brand name or name of any description for this type of cable clip. They hold a cable in the rounded part & clip onto the edge of RSJ's etc with the serrated bit. I want some clips that can hold a cable about 1/2" dia and these are too small.

General Discussion Area / wireless connection
« on: 28 July 2009, 19:25:29 »
Just out of curiosity ...... when my daughter is home from uni she brings her laptop home with her and connects wirelessly to the internet via our Orange Livebox. Every now & then it won't connect, but if we go to the Inventel Livebox config page & change the channel number (usually by 1) in the security section, she'll be up & running!
Question .... why does she loose the connection & why does keep changing a channel every now & then work!

in simplistic terms please.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

General Discussion Area / Who watched Air Medics?
« on: 20 July 2009, 22:31:54 »
SWMBO recorded this earlier this evening. Tonight's programme was all about motorbike accidents in Cumbria's & North Yorkshire's rural roads covered by a helicopter air ambulance. A good excuse for a bit of emotional blackmail to 'encourage' me to get rid of my bike I think.
One middle aged woman put her bike into a wall where you used her right leg to stop her bike, needless to say she smashed her leg ... in about 5 places!  :o  :o

General Discussion Area / European breakdown
« on: 09 June 2009, 08:32:39 »
Has anyone ever had any experience of http://www.breakdowndirect.co.uk/media/pdf/EuropeanCoverPolicy.pdf these? I know there's an element of you get what you pay for but I've had quotes of between £110 to £140odd with Red Pennant for a fortnight's cover in French France which to me seem extortionate. Green Flag won't cover a caravan over 21' in the UK but they do if you get your cover via the Caravan Club. :-/ :-/ :-?

Or do I just stick a crank sensor in the boot & keep my fingers crossed?  ;D ;D :y

General Discussion Area / Clarke/Machine Mart tool
« on: 12 May 2009, 12:10:43 »
I need to cut a few concrete paving slabs and as I only have a small 4" grinder that it doesn't seem like yu can get stone discs for I was considering buying one of these I know it's cheap, I normally buy names, but it won't get used very often. It put me off a little when I've just phone Machine Mart and the lad said, 'Oh! One of them, you're not using it proffesionally are you?'
Anyone got anything good or bad to say about them? Or suggest a reasonable 8"/9"/10" grinder for occasional use.
TIA

General Discussion Area / keeping DNA (Not Scotland)
« on: 07 May 2009, 20:02:33 »

Apparently if you were innocent of a minor offence they'll destroy your DNA after 6 years. However if you were innocent of a major offence they'll keep it for 12 years.  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?
Some people must be more innocent than others!  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?

Apparently it's a good idea to have a bungee holding the 2 front doors of the Nobel together, as the body can flex enough 'at speed' for one or both doors to open!  :o

I'm after suggestions on how to remove rubber from the side of my caravan. I set off from a set of lights, near side lane of 2, the right hand lane disappeared within about 30' of the other side of the junction, and some silly tw4t decided he'd try to get infront of the caravan ..... me! However he miss judged how fast I took off from the lights. The first I noticed in my mirror was him hitting the island with his FOS wheel, I hope he at least buckled his rim or oppsed his tyre.  >:( Needless to say he'd turned off before I had chance to stop. >:( >:(

Anyway ...... I've got the rubber from his tyres of most of the side of the caravan, acetone got it off the ally trim, and T-cut got it off the paint work. I'm now struggling to get it off the textured trim (not disimilar to prefaclift bumpers & side trims) from around the locker doors. T-cut doesn't touch it, acetone  does .... but it melts the plastic too  :'( I've tried some other solvents (Locktite cleaner) I have, but it doesn't get it off. I've gently scraped a lot of it off.
Any suggestions?  :-? :-/ :-/
