This is why you should always disconnect the battery first!

This is a reasonably common problem and the official VX fix is to "Check all connections and cable condition from aerial plug to rear window".

It's quite often simply that the plug has worked loose in the back of the head unit.

Two points:

Is the mainbeam circuit supplying current to the mainbeam and foglights simultaneously?  The fuse may be approaching its limit.

Is that a bare piece of copper wire loosely wrapped round the relay terminals before the relay is pushed in?  This is a fire hazard!

The best solution is to fit relays, energised by the high beam voltage and supplied with a separate, appropriately fused feed as suggested previously.

Nice work!

Actually, this question does come up from time to time.

I think it would be an excellent idea to do a guide for this.

Just tested the alarm.

It works as normal, I'm glad to say!

And by the way, I totally agree with the 'KISS' premise.  It's nearly always the best approach.  It's easy to lead yourself off down a very complicated path, when a total rethink and fresh start provides the best result.

Jamie, cutting the wire is exactly the same effect as removing the key.

So, in theory, the alarm should be unaffected as you would normally remove the key before arming it.
The alarm unit would be expecting the loss of the 12v from the 'W' contact as a condition of its operation.

However, I must admit, I have never tested it!  :-[

I'll try it tomorrow, unless someone can do it before then.

Kind of puts my "cut red wire" technique to shame!  :(

Good work Jamie.

I'm watching this with interest.  I spent many happy hours rummaging around in the circuit diagrams associated with this.

Can't remember if you finally got one or not, but look here!

Anybody thinking about installing an amp, get one of these.  They are unbeatable at this price!

It's not often you see a zero response post on this forum.

Did you get the CD?

Glad it's in and sounding good!

But these adaptors seem a bit hit and miss.

Good luck!

Sorry.  Just re-read.  It's for the MV6.  You won't have to suffer the awful fascia adaptor then!

Good luck with the search.

Don't forget the fascia adaptor

and you might need one of these adaptors.

though, I doubt it.

It could be a dodgy sender, dodgy gauge, dodgy connection, alternator over/under volts.

Good recommendations there from laidback.

Especially the little Rockford amp.  They are very good, strong amps and always underquoted on power.
The best thing about that one is that it'll probably fit in the first aid cubby like this.
