US one or UK one.....I have seen the US ones and they are like war and peace......Uk ones are dead easy in comparison!

US ones range from dead simple to stacks of paper. UK seems to be similar, except not familiar with all the terms and classifications so struggling with which 'extra pages' I need.

I'd complain, according to the advert tax doesn't have to be taxing!

I have never filled in one, my dad used to but does not any more....

You are responsible for owning up to any untaxed income and requesting one. Depends if you have anything complicated in your finances and/or earn into the top tax band.

IME they'll send you one for a few years and if it doesn't change much from one year to the next they start sending you a much simpler form to fill in.

Do you get any perks'? Private medical? Lunch allowance? Travel allowance? Clothing allowance?

Any of these may trigger them sending you a tax return.  :'(

They sent me one for three years, which I never filled in (Before self assessment).

In the end I phoned them up and asked them why they kept sending them as I was PAYE, didn't own any shares and didn't have any investments. They told me to write that on the return forms and return them. I did this, sent all three back in the same envelope and I never heard from them again.  :-/

It seems quite arbitrary to whom they will send a tax return to.   :(
