Hi All
Am looking at getting a boot liner for my estate. I want something that will protect the sides and back as well as the floor of the estate boot, but not necessarily a rigid hard polyprene one, I'd prefer a simple plastic sheet based one, that can be folded away when not used. I've googled  few but wondered if there were any recommendations from the group based on experience?

Thanks Pat

Omega General Help / Radiator drain plug.
« on: 21 September 2008, 09:44:56 »
Can anybody please confirm 100% if the radiator drain plug should have a seal / washer between the knurled thumbscrew and the face of the rad? (I'm aware there are two rubber sealing rings further down on the drain plug body).
Thanks Pat

Omega General Help / snag whilst trying to remove my radiator.
« on: 18 September 2008, 21:16:03 »
I'm trying to remove my radiator (2.5 V6 with A/C and auto gearbox).
Having disconnected all pipes etc I am able to lift the radiator about 6 inches before the right hand side (looking from the front) snags on a thick cable harness that routes into the battery tray area, in between 2 aircon pipes. Its a large sensor on the rad that seems to snag on this harness. It got too dark before I could work out how to work around it so just wondered if anyone else has had this issue?
My thoughts are to lift the car and take off the stone guard underneath to give me access to see how I can get past the problem (Haynes simply says "lift out the radiator - but to be fair, so does TIS 2000).
Thanks Pat

Omega General Help / paint peel and corrosion, roof bars and sunroof
« on: 19 February 2008, 17:00:20 »
Hi All
I've got some of the black peeling off the sunroof surround, plus the leading edges of the roof bars are bubbling with corrosion under the black 'paint'.
Has anybody had experince of dealing with this, if so, what did you use to clear the corrosion and touch up the black paint?

Thanks Pat

Omega General Help / simple question re Vacuum Tubing repair
« on: 05 July 2007, 16:33:46 »
I've got a damaged 4mm vacuum pipe (the one from the rear of the engine compartment that feeds the SAI valve at the front of the engine compartment). I've bought some replacement tubing. The question is, before I do something I shouldn't...

Q. Does the tubing simply pull out of the rubber connectors at each end? Or is there a glue involved and am i likley to damage the rubber connectors by pulling the tube out?

Thanks Pat  :-/

Hi All
I've been out with the Omega in two of the badly flood affected area's today, West York and Lincolnshire, I've driven through almost monsoon style rain, and I've also encountered quite a few flooded roads, and although I have driven through them very slowly, there is still a bow wave and therefore some underbody splashing.

I stopped the car back home in Wakefield for 30 minutes (to photo the floods), when i got back in and started the car I got the "'A'  - Auto Gearbox" message on the display, and the lights on the gear selector were dancing around. I switched off on and managed to get it to pull away in 3rd. When I got home 5 mins later, I switched of and on again, and with the gear in 'Park' I was also getting a flickering light on 3rd also (very faint).

It feels like it may simply be ingress of water / damp into the selector mechanism so I'm going to leave it overnight 'to dry out'.

Does this sound right or familiar? or is it wishful thinking.

Thanks Pat

Omega General Help / Radiator pipe fouling switchover valve
« on: 14 April 2007, 17:30:25 »
Hi All
Before recently joining this forum, I would lift my bonnet, briefly look in, gulp and then quickly close the bonnet and pretend that the engine compartment didn't really exist. Now I'm getting braver and am actually have a good look around to try and learn what does what, which may lead to a few silly questions. here is the latest....

The top radiator pipe (drivers side) that runs across the engine bay (to the secondary cooling pump?), is wedged between the radiator and the resonance pipe switch over valve (see picture), which doesn't seem right to me. Also, there is a plastic clip on the pipe to the left of the valve that is currently unemployed. Could someone on the forum with a V6 facelift with climate control please have a look and tell me where this pipe should route when passing the valve, and where the clip should be placed?

Thanks Pat

Hi again
Now I've got immersed in the forum, I'm starting to learn much more about how my car works, which is great, however I'm also starting to get the mechanical version of hypochondria!

A quick question. I read a thread the other day saying that the cooling fans should switch in when the temp is around 95 C and off again around 90 C. I've noticed that the 3 fans on my radiator startup within 4 seconds of starting the engine, even from cold. However, if I turn climate control off, they do not start up straight away.

Is it normal for the fans to start straight away when climate control is on? Does anyone else of an elite with Climate control who could observe and fedback please?

Thanks Pat

Omega General Help / what are those 4 beeps???????
« on: 07 April 2007, 19:45:21 »
Now I've got the grease off my hands from the HBV change, (and changed my pants from the close call with the radiator tap) - here's a question thats has bothered me from day one of owning this car , nearly seven years ago. On occasions when I turn off the ignition I get 4 'beeps', which I now believe come from the horn sited underneath the scuttle on the drivers side. It usually happens when I have turned off the ignition and removed the key in one swift movement. It certainly never happens all the time, quite the opposite. I'm sure its some part of the system telling me off.

Any ideas

Thanks Pat

Omega General Help / Heater Bypass Valve replacement.
« on: 06 April 2007, 10:59:13 »
I have a leak at the rear of the engine and I'm pretty convinced its coming from the heater Bypass valve (or coolant cut off valve as my TIS 2000 CD calls it). I've got the procedure as recommended in the TIS, and I've also seen a very good 'how to' on VXON. Both describe taking off the intake plenum to allow access. I've also seen a comment that this may not always be neccesary.

My question is
1. "Has anybody out there managed to change the HBV without removing the plenum, and if so, how tricky is it?"

I suppose another question should be,
2. "for those who have removed the plenum to do it, should a reasonable competent amateur be able to do it?"

Thanks Pat

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello from Wakefield
« on: 06 April 2007, 10:49:07 »
My first post to introduce myself. I own a Omega Elite estate which I've had from new (June 2000), and I love. I don't love the repair bills though, and my local Vauxhall dealer appears to be going up in price and down in service levels. Then I saw the light! Well, what I actually saw was the www.omegaowners.com sticker in the back of a members car (STMO 123 (Steve?), and realised there may be another way to cut out the increasing bills I incur for servicing. So here I am and I'm looking forward to helping and getting help. (although about the only technical thing I've done on mine so far is to replace the LCD on the colour display of my GPS, but if anyone needs info on that I have some LCD suppliers and some info on changing it.

Thanks to Steve? (STMO 123) and Jaime (The Boy) for helping me get started.

Pat
