I need to replace the cat on my 2.2 petrol 2003 manual saloon + the rest of the exhaust back. The joint between the cat and rear boxes was replaced with a welded tube. The second cat has lasted 2 years past the point it was deemed not weldable/repairable any more and one of the two pipes to the rear silencer box has separated. So I just as well replace all of it with new.

Any recommendations please?

Thanks for any help.

I find myself yet again repairing the wiring loom through to the boot. Re-soldering in a short pieces of wire to fix the problem. But its happening far to often.

Is there a more permanent solution? What does it involve and would would I need to buy?

Thanks

Andy

Omega General Help / Climate control reset
« on: 21 May 2017, 14:38:40 »
My Climate control blower fan has always come on the same time I switch the ignition on without starting the car. Is this normal?

I cleaned the temp sensor today with compressed air through the slots above the radio and now the blower for the climate control only comes on after the engine starts.

Omega General Help / High mpg 2.2 petrol manual Z22XE
« on: 16 May 2017, 19:40:15 »
Just unplugged the MAF sensor and took the car for a run. It ran the same with it unplugged as it did when plugged in. Does this mean the the MAF sensor is OK?

No fault codes are showing.

The car went through its MOT in March and passed its emissions test, while it was using a lot of fuel compared to usual.

What other sensors could cause the fuel economy to go up and how do I test them?

I have a holiday coming up in a couple of months, up north and want the fuel economy to be back to normal if possible.

Omega General Help / strange rpm
« on: 11 May 2017, 12:00:38 »
2003 manual 2.2 petrol.

When I'm travelling down the road at a constant speed of 30mph the engine would lose power for a moment and then gently come back in while keeping the throttle in the same position.
Then the other day it started to do it again, but this time for 2-3 seconds at a time. Some days it doesn't do it at all. There are no codes showing. What could cause this?

Not sure if this is to do with above. The car idles around 1300rpm then slowly drops to below 1000. Lately it has be doing that but as soon as the rpm's go above 2000 they hang there for far too long and it makes changing gear a pain. After less than a minute it hangs for a short time as normal for changing gear smoothly.

Thanks

2003 N/S/F Door lock actuator suddenly stopped working. I was under the impression that it starts to play up before dying. Is this correct or could it be a broken door wire?

Thanks

My son's car has both front brake caliper rubber dust boots split. Is that an MOT failure?

I've put some silicone over them for now.

I've had a smell of coolant inside the car for the past 2 years and now the smell is getting slowly stronger. No loss of coolant.
What could be causing the smell?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Map light bulb question
« on: 11 February 2017, 15:31:54 »
I have an Omega 2003 and want to replace the map bulbs. Are the 501 bulbs suppose to pull out of the bulb holder or is it an all in one?

The BULB holder is a PA66/6 and the bulb looks like it's an all in one unit.

Thanks

Over the past year I have experienced some strange things with the engine. If I'm driving down the road at 30mph, mainly down hill, and take my foot off the accelerator the car will continue to accelerate/surge forward for a short time. It's as if the cruise control is on and is trying to keep up to the set speed. The time varies from 1-2 seconds but on the odd occasion its been up to 3 seconds. When I first had the car I fitted a cruise control stalk but that was around 2-3 years ago and it has been working fine.
What could cause this?

The engine always started first turn of the key without fail, whatever the temp of the engine was. Over the last year it would always start first time of the day without fail.
When I drive down to the local shops and turn the engine off, come back out to start the car the engine won't fire. If I turn the key off and then try again it starts first turn of the engine again. Last time it did it I continually turned the engine over to see what would happen. After 12 continuous turns of the engine it finally fired up. This problem is very intermittent and it won't do this every time. I found the thermostat was stuck open and changed this recently and the problem seemed to get a little more frequent.
What could cause this?

Since changing the thermostat the car seems slightly under powered when warmed up going up hills. It just doesn't pick up speed when driving up a hill like it used to. If  I push the throttle down steady the car will have a noticeable delay and then pick up but not how it used to.  Yesterday I steadily dipped the throttle on a flat bit of road  over and over and its  like the engine is thinking about it before picking speed up.
What could cause this

Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Reversing bulbs upgrade
« on: 13 December 2016, 10:08:22 »
Ever since the street lights have gone over to LED lighting, it has become a right pain to reverse into the drive with 3 cars on it. The reversing lights are just not bright enough.

What type of bulbs could I upgrade with?

Thanks
