Wtd - 2.5 diesel auto
« on: 03 November 2020, 17:59:04 »

My mate with the Honda vaJazzle is now after an automatic diesel Omega, preferably the 2.5 and with leather. If anyone has one that they're wanting rid of... there's one on eBay with a gearbox fault but I wouldn't gamble £650 on a fluid and filter change fixing it, because I don't know enough about them to fix anything else...!

The TD has an AR25 by default, barely strong enough esp once chipped. Sold my lovely TD estate plus fitted AR35 2 years ago. :(

It won't, it will be a shagged box. AR35 needed, even if you don't chip it (which it really does need).

Thanks for the advice so far! Is that the same box on the 2.2D as well? I'll be honest, I've never looked at anything diesel or auto in my life. I will mosey into the info pages for a read.

Is it worth going for a diesel at all? I've tried to explain the virtues of a V6 but he's a bit too worried about mpg, even though I get 35 on a run...

My 2.5TD wasn’t particularly frugal, best I got was 33 on a run and 28 locally, in 19 years of ownership. Mind you my 2.0l petrol Mondeo is no better.  :(

The TD auto was never particularly economical, esp urban. The manual one, once chipped, is.  Around town, its arguable the 2.5 petrol is about same mpg, but at NSL and motorway speeds, the TD (auto or manual) will hit high 30s with ease.

V6 wise, the 2.5/3.0 are far more economical than their 2.6/3.2 replacements, and similar power output.

If those are the best figures Shackeng got (and I don't get the impression he has a lead right foot), it really doesn't seem like a 2.5TD is worth it, unless towing maybe?

By the time you've paid 10% more per litre of diesel over petrol, surely you'll come out the same as a V6, give or take a few quid?

But you don't have to buy 6 spark plugs :D

I've been driving my 2.6 Elite for the last couple of weeks while the Rangie is with Serek. I'm just over the 20mpg mark.... mostly A roads........... but that's because I just can't keep my foot off the gas...... I forgot just how much I enjoyed driving one of these!!!!!!  :y :y That V6 noise,  and the general feel of the Elite... is just superb  :y :y :y :y :y
