Quick call the government... Aliens are invading in disguise, and taking the place of Humans ....  only such a vile and devious plot could possibly explain "the little green blob formally known as Tunnie" posting at such an hour....

said the guy who got up an hour and a half  ago

(but didn't in fairness, retire until half 5 this morning... )

[, petrol is too expensive for it to be leaking out!

that's not the reason to worry about it Tunnie.

if you can smell petrol, it means there are fuel fumes around... and it's the vapour that's dangerous... the liquid itself is actually relatively safe (as things that can go bang go....  or for a given value of "safe"   )
sorry  I was thinking about what caused fumes in my Sennies...  which largely happened in the 12 valve ones.. as graham spotted ....... forgot yours is 24 valve and has a different injector system.  I'm sure we had something similar in the 24 valve version as well though... I'll have to dig out my old notes and manuals if i can find them... and havea quick memory refresh....

but it's still worth checking every single joint and length of fuel line...

the thing is, it need not necessarily be a big, and obviously wet, leak...    just not being tight enough might allow vapour to escape....

the 12 valve flaw was basically as the rubber aged...  the ends harden up and it ceases to provide a flexible seal under the clamp.....   and the injector rail, being at fairly high pressure, will encourage anything to leak where ever it possibly can.   and it did.....

just seeping slightly is potentially  a more insidious danger than pissing out everywhere...  as you may be inclined to leave it for now as it SEEMS less important.

remember , it's not the liquid fuel that explodes in the cylinder , it's fuel vapour and air mixed.

(of course pissing out onto a hot manifold is going to create a LOT of vapour... so that trumps the "subtle leak"  easily.......)

the strait six fuel injection systems had a load of short rubber hose lengths....   these were always the weak point, and needed replacing about once every 5 years .

if you can smell fuel around the front and sometimes when driving/ coming to a stop at a junction...  it's almost always these tunnie.

make sure the correct hose is used in replacement.....  or you'll end up with worse problems if it fails drastically.

additional spring length implies that perhaps there's a problem with the ESC/levelling....  rear shocks....
let's hope not eh??

There are plenty of PoC ones just waiting for the OS to get some tiny amount of popularity - so keep the AV up to date...

OSX has had its fair share of security flaws though (as has Windows/Linux/Solaris/HPUX)

AFAIK, none of the PoC types yet shown will work without admin password entry to authorise it.

and significantly fewer flaws than Windows... and many of those that have existed, were actually related to M$ software....    even back in OS7.5/8/9 the few viable security flaws were largely to do with M$ explorer and mail apps/.   the other weakness exploited was the hypercard system.

the ONLY pure Mac virus i've ever encountered in the wild was one called Seven Dust...  back in pre-OSX days.
I've provided support for several hundred professional  Mac based AV systems........  1 virus in all that time... one one machine only....

Paul M,

I should own up and admit i use, and support,  both major Platforms for work.....  which is in the Audio-Visual industry

OSX is generally more responsive under our normally heavy work load conditions than Windows....   this we've tested on both the same intel based hardware, and comparable previous systems between PPC and intel hardware

it is however not perfect......  if it was, i'd probably not be sitting here typing this........     :D

and believe me, Apple have almost as much of a "Screw the users, we're like, some kind of nerds god" complex as M$

I trust Steve Jobs as far as I can throw his office building or bank balance...

to be honest, i'd probably trust Bill Gates more......

But damn it, Apple just keep building products that work well enough and reliably enough to keep me, and many clients, coming back for more.

but also because they keep buying the software companies we rely on.., and switching off the PC versions.....

it's not all roses , fine wine and pretty women in the Orchard.....

I'm going to make myself highly unpopular with some members for this, but I think I'm going to be Allowing myself a small moment of long term Mac user smug bastardness....

There IS a viable, reliable, secure (ish) alternative you know...

buy a Mac.

current number of viable virus threats in the wild for OS X??

ZERO!

:D

and , it actually works !

And

if you're desperate to at least keep M$ whine-doze for some unknowable reason....  , all current intel CPU'd macs can be configured as a dual boot machine, to run Windows instead via "bootcamp"

Of course, Windows on a Mac is probably about as vulnerable as Windows on a PC..   But even then, there are still no Virus threats for the OSX installation...

it actually makes sense you know....  \

simply,  as I recall, i think it was company car taxation rules....  there were break points in the tax rules at around 2 litres and 3 litres... 3.5 was way over the top, according to the accountant of the time.....  who was shortly thereafter fired....

I did have a mate with a much tweaked 3.9 Vitesse Turbo....

to be fair , in a straight line it was magnificently brutal and awesomely quick.....

show it a roundabout however, and you were in trouble.....

I spent some time trying to work out what the worst one i ever had was...

it MIGHT have been that bloody Corsair...  my first car...   god it was sh1te

But dishonourable mentions must go to...

Fraud Granada Mk2 estate.   ( we used it as a taxi, because there was no Senator Estate, and it was bigger than the Carlton estate ) , it got almost cut in half in a side impact accident in 89, provided me little or no protection , I still suffer from that incident today...

MG Maestro, Pedal offset causes back problem sin anyone over 6ft effectively, the pedals, seat and steering wheel are all slightly offset form each other so that you sit in a weird skewed position that causes a rotational tension in the spine ... leading to severe back ache after longer journeys.
this however appeared to be fixed for the Montego , which actually was a much better car..... still crap... but not nearly as crap as the misnomered Maestro.

Rover SDI 2.6   they weren't called HG munchers chaps  ... they were called head benders..  the reason they went through so many HG's was that the heads warped at the slightest opportunity....   if it overheated even for a minute... it would require machining and a new HG at the very least....

first ever was a 2.0 V4 Ford Corsair.

Best ever... the Senators.....   I had a couple of Sennie A's, and 4 Sennie B's

the last of my rev A's was D72NFC , a 3.0 manual,  Thames valley police "traffic" vehicle....  We fitted a PMC 3.6 litre conversion engine into it....

that's probably the Car I will always have the fondest "insane, and insanely happy" driving memories of , but it's a close run thing between that and my Later 3.6 Sennie B's

the latter being more refined and capacious , the former being a more aggressively nimble , yet discrete ,4 wheel guided missile.

probably not.....  given that you'd achieve near infinite mass....    i'd think you would be much more concerned about your dieting regime

I'm having some difficulty deciding whether you all actually know the currently accepted "correct"  answers to these ponderings, or whether I should actually answer them.....
