Oil leak rear end of engine, 2,6v6
« on: 01 April 2014, 13:28:29 »

Hi
My omega have a leak at the rear end of the engine
The Opel garage told me that it is the rear crank seal that is gone. But I don't trust them. So is there any other plases at the rear end of the engine dere there can be a leak?

Assuming auto...

If the bung in the bottom of the bell housing is removed and oil is found in the bell housing, then yes, rear crank seal failed.

If not it could of blown back from anywhere.

Yes it is auto.
The bellhouse is dry and clean.
That is the reason I don't belive it is the crank seal.

I agree with you then, in that case.

Usually it gets blown back from the top,of the sump. Where all oil leaks collect.

If the camcover gaskets have recently been changed, then are the half moons seated correctly :-\

Don't ask, but I guarantee that they leak like a bastid if not fitted correctly :-X

Hi... My car still have the leak, so I had another look at the engine today. I thought I would change the camcoversealing as I believed the oil leaking came from camcovers. After stripping down the engine to get access, I noticed that the engine is dry and clean. No trace of oil around the covers. Also had a look at the oilcooler. It's clean.
Maybe it is the crankseal after all ???:-\

Hi.
I went for it and left my omega at the local opelgarage to change the crank seal at the rear of the engine. They called me back and told me that it is the crank seal in the front of the engine that leaks.
So now I'm waiting for the garage to replace it.
I'll give you an update when I get the car back.
