BBC4 1980's rallying programme
« on: 04 April 2012, 10:36:23 »

I watched this last night and found it very interesting. I had forgotten just what brutes the Group B cars were!

I did remember the moving throngs of spectators on the Iberian peninsular rallies!

Henri Toivonon. What a loss he was to the rallying world. I remember in his early years watching the RAC one year when it was plagued by fog. On Wykeham 2 (which I knew like the back of my hand) he was the only driver not to lift which earnt my respect.

It was on at 8p.m. UK time and I guess will be shown again. Worth looking out for.

I caught the last 10 minutes or so. It was an excellent,if poignant programme.I still remember the shock in motorsport when Toivenon was killed. He was one of those people who just drove faster than  seemed possible. Working without a safety net type of bloke. He was the new big star and then suddenly gone, in the most horrific way imaginable.
I want to see a repeat so I can watch it from the start.

Watched it last night, quite nostalgic, and utterly crazy.  I can understand why it was more popular than F1 at the time.

No idea what bro was on about, must be something else...
