Fault code 1405 on 2.2 petrol facelift.

Just had problem with the engine running very rough after fitting a new Egr. Engine hunting at tick over and light (car with spanner) coming on.

Car able to start and accelerate. Code read showing fault code 1405. Have done the resistance check from terminal on plug of Egr to earth. Readings found shows 3 volts  wrt earth, with ignition on. Same point but with ignition off, resistance showing greater than 500 ohm's.

Does any one know where the X83-55 connection is on a 2000 MY 2.2? I think it is in the foot well on the drivers side. Have removed the plastic cover and found what I think is the immobiliser unit. Is this the part I need to check for a good earth to the terminal on the Egr?

Been told the Sim Tech unit should have part number 24421815 on it.

Looking forward to replies, have already spoilt my day with finding out how much another unit will cost. :'( :'(

Thanks, just been out to check that the big plugs are still solid. All o.k. Checked between earth on unit to battery earth and that is o.k. Looks as though I will have to try for another ecu. :'(

No other faults came up on readout just the 1405. Will get a second opinion on my findings and then I will probably have to bite another bullet.

At least it is running in a fashion so I can get to and from work.

If you change ECU (unlikely its faulty), it will need to be programmed to immobiliser.

Is the code still present, or is it an old code?

Check the loom before ECU ;)

Thanks, now I know where the thing is I will have a good gander at the electrical connections. It seems strange that it was going fine last night but came to this problem when driving this morning. It is not as though it is wet up here at the moment. Unusual as that might seem as I am in Scotland. ;D

Presumably, this is the same issue you had before replacing egr?

Sorry just back from earning my crust. No it is not the same problem that I had before replacing the egr. Have removed the ecu from te battery tray and checked the connectors. All nice and clean and tight.

Also when travelling slow, about 20 - 30 mph, if the brakes are applied you get assistance for the first couple of goes but then it is a solid pedel. This again may be due to the egr not letting the engine produce a vacuum to be used in the brake circuit. Am I on the right track with that or talking total Bo**o*ks?

The vac issue is most likely a different issue.

Thought that, checked the solid pipe from the inlet but it is not loose. No small pipes off either. Well it is going down to the local VX tomorrow as I cannot afford any more time on the thing. Nor can I afford the motor being off the road. Should get confirmation of my findings.

Well here it is folks, I am a total tit, VX took off the egr and found crap trapped inside causing the tick over problem. :-X :-[

So no need to sell the dog to finance another ecu. Happy days are here again and Mrs. DaveL starting to talk to me. So I am sure that could cause doom and gloom. ;D

Thanks to all for the input and the old adage of check what you have just fitted comes good. Seems that I was checking the wrong pin and when it was checked for voltage it was a floating voltage from the ecu.

Car running as sweet as a nut again.

But of course watch this space.....
