Froggy Content (2006 clito)

2006 clito 1.6 Petrol Piece Of Shit. (MkIII)

Occasional non-start issue.

Until I see the car and diagnose it properly, I don't know what the problem is.

From the symptoms, it's fuel pump or fuel pump relay related.

The hole under the rear bench is big enough to unplug the electrical connection but not big enough to remove/refit a new pump.

How mental would I have to be to use a 4" grinder to make the hole bigger?  I don't have access to a nibbler.

Note: The fuel tank is original and has it's original locking ring, so chance of fumes are zero, there appears (from photo's online) to be a decent gap between steel and plastic tank.

I cant find anything online about people doing this modification with the tank in situ...... is that telling me what I need to know?

Is there enough room to use snips?

How hard would it be to drop the tank, as it can't be very big? Although the French design probably rules that out >:(

Good plan Nick.  Being from FrogLand, the steel will be paper thin.

Dropping the tank includes nothing other than;
Removing exhaust (1 piece from factory)
Removing rear brake lines
Loosening and lowering the real axle

I ain't doing that shit!

Before you cut the hole bigger, have a plan to fill it when the job is done. Paint tin lids(plastic ones will work just as well ;) ), small drain covers, saucepan lids are all good. Stick down whatever cover you use with some ordinary silicone

Covering the hole isn't a problem... I'll just use some 0.5mm aluminium and sikaflex it down.

That's thinner than I would use, even with a stiffening flange, but it probably matches the original metal.

Well, I took a 4" grinder to it with a 1mm cutting disc.  Was a bit squeaky bum time, but it's done.

Do you think I can release the locking ring off the pump?  Can I heck.

New pump and pump removal tool on order and should be here Tuesday.

Loosening the locking ring is usually the hard part of the job. Doing so without damaging it is a bonus.

If you can get a new locking ring, just split the old one with a chisel.

This is not just a French problem!
