Besides, why fly eight hours the wrong way, when you can fly direct ???

A few reasons; direct means LHR or LGW. LGW is in the wrong place, LHR is a PITA to get around due to its size and the previous 2 times I've come back through there it's taken me nearly 90mins to get through passport control.

I can get from my front room to my gate at BHX in around 25mins if security behaves itself.  So notionally my trip is 6hrs longer, but in reality it's about 3, or less than 2 if LHR immigration acts up again and involves infinitely less stress.

Also, my current employer will only fund travel in premium economy. But due to a quirk of timing, time of year maybe? I could get an Emirates business class seat for only £250 more than other premium economy seats. By the time id applied some creative accounting by factoring in Emirates free transfers etc, I could pay the difference with some miles I had.

I then spent the last of my Emirates miles to get 2 of the 4 flights in first class. Which is a bucket list item ticked off.  :y

Fair enough, but then not flying Emirates is on my bucket list, so horses for courses ;)

Backhanders notwithstanding, Dubai isn't on my list of places to visit, so going there to go somewhere else isn't a priority. Also, and I appreciate that you're flying in your own personal cupboard, if I want to fly on an A380, it won't be on the highest pax configuration one. ;)

Having flown long haul on just about every type of commercial aircraft that's currently in service, I prefer the a380 to anything else I've been on.

That said I've only flown an a380 on Lufthansa and Emirates, and I'm guessing they're two of the most sense formats (Singapore being least dense - again a guess).

Lufthansa not quite as densely packed as Emirates.
List here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_configurations_of_Airbus_A380

But Singapore run theirs sub 400, so plenty more space for everyone. Even BA is sub 500.

I much prefer the B747 as an aircraft, and flying on the 747-8 is on my list either this year or next, so probably Lufthansa... As for the A380, at least Singapore is somewhere I might like to visit ;)

I've flown the 747 twice (I think) -400 on Virgin and -8 on Lufthansa. Both times I found them noisier and with more vibration than the a380.

Also, as I almost always travel solo and being the most antisocial person I know, I much prefer the staggered 1-2-1 seating to the 747's 2-2.  ;D

I realise these are the very definition of first-world-millenial-snowflake-travel-diva problems ;)

Not a lot of point in even putting diesel in them seeing as there's nothing to fly off them, nor anything to protect them!  ::)

Exactly what I said to Claire Perry at a fruitless meeting with her a couple of years ago to complain at the neglect of our home - maritime in particular - defence. According to her these white elephants would bolster our island maritime defence!
Never fear, she is now going to Chair COP26, so the climate is safe. https://www.climatechangenews.com/2019/07/25/former-uk-energy-minister-claire-perry-appointed-cop26-president/

An F35 took off from one of them a couple of weeks back and flew straight over our office. Stealthy it may be in radar terms, but, acoustically, it announced itself pretty effectively. :o
