I would agree Zulu, they should have the facts about babies in incubators etc explained to them, and then see if they still want to shut it down. I can remember this happening at Ballylumford Power station in the early 70,s.The grand old Duke of Ballymena marched his men to the top of that proverbial hill, but when he was told about the reality of what would happen,he marched them back down again. ::)
Have I missed something here?  Surely even a NHS hospital has diesel generators on hot standby for power cuts?

Or is there more to this?

But I do do tend to agree that any minuscule minority group of activists who take it into their heads to invade a power station are perpetrating some form of civil disorder and should be severely dealt with. 8-)
Er no. They have sump heaters to keep the oil warm but they don't always start first time. The expectation is that power will be available for essential purposes within 40 seconds.

Critical care, operating theatres & special care baby units should have UPS (battery) supplies to keep things running for 20 minutes or until the generators kick in.

Standing orders should be that no operations are started while relying on the generators because there is then no safety back up.

I don't use Paypal & I try not to use anything Microsoft but....

often when pasting using an application that is capable of applying text formatting there will be options for 'paste' and 'paste without formatting'. 'Paste without formatting' should work every time.

Sycamore, a non native invasive weed http://www.woodlands.co.uk/owning-a-wood/tree-identification/sycamore.php

My last Omega was permanently filthy through being parked under a 40' sycamore. The sycamore has to go, I can't allow it to destroy my new mig  >:(

Was this a first attempt?

Mallard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LNER_Class_A4_4468_Mallard got very close to 126mph in 1938 so it has only taken 71 years to gain another 13 mph.

ABS membership form went in the post box at 8am  :) (half an hour before I sat in the dentists chair for one of the most uncomfortable fillings I can remember  :( )

Thanks Andy

I had forgotten about Autobahnstormers. When I last looked at their website (about 10 years ago) I was on my second 4 pot Carlton & the "eligible cars" page didn't make me feel welcome. :(

General Discussion Area / Re: pre-facelift or facelift?
« on: 24 August 2009, 17:47:59 »
Had my facelift for a week now (had my original Omega for 6 years before that).

When I walk up to it in a car park it doesn't feel like 'my' car yet. I think the big plastic bumpers make it look like it has had an 80's body kit stuck on and the soft touch paint inside looks dreadful where it has worn through.

My old one just looked 'right' somehow (but I won't miss the pop up headlight washers that didn't retract or the chrome trim on the rear bumper that told a tale of bumps in supermarket car parks).

He'll be lucky to get £60 for that piece of crap.

While I agree - to be fair to the person, they've probably put a lot of time into it. End of the day, if they like it, it's all that counts  :y

If he likes it so much why is he selling it? ::)

Rear bumper appears from the 'Bollywood Sari' school of design.......

I wouldn't hold out much hope of DVLA Swansea getting it right. On my last car they got my surname wrong so I filled in the back of the registration document and sent it back. They corrected my surname but changed my Christian name to 'Andfew' (maybe it's the Welsh variant?)

If you are near a 'Local Vehicle Licensing Office' you might have more success if you go in to see them. I found them helpful & polite last time I visited one (about 10 years ago).

I use debian.

Download a net install image http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ & burn it to a cd. Boot the offending PC with the cd & follow the instructions. You might need to do some reading ;)

Personally I started with dos, then windows 1, 2, 3, 98 & XP. With every iteration from Microsoft I have come across situations where the system does mysterious things but you can't fix it because the code is secret. With Debian there is always a solution (but you may need to get your hands dirty to fix it).

Ubuntu & Knoppix are based on Debian. Knoppix is good if you want to boot from a cd without making any changes to an existing pc. You can use a Knoppix cd to boot an unbootable windows pc to investigate & fix the problem. http://www.knoppix.org/

It's not that I don't like music, it's just that I can't stand the waffle between the numbers.  My blood pressure rises at the nonsense I am expected to listen to and I become a menace to other road users.
So not just me then ::)

Picked up a car with steering wheel controls for radio yesterday. If anything I am worse now because I can change channels quicker :P

You mentioned your sister 'sort of blaming you'. In a way it sounds as though you have lost her too.

Now is the time when family should be a source of comfort and support.

If you can, get her to attend joint counselling sessions with you. I don't know you or your sis but sometimes the most important things are the most difficult to say & a third person might make things easier.

Good Luck
