WD 40
« on: 15 April 2023, 08:24:11 »

Anyone old enough to remember when WD40 was marketed as Rocket WD40.?  In the 60’s I think.

Also interesting how the name came about.

Working in a small lab in San Diego, California, it took them 40 attempts to get the water displacing formula worked out. But they must have been really good, because the original secret formula for WD-40® Multi-Use Product -which stands for Water Displacement perfected on the 40th try—is still in use today.

Of course every house had a tin and they lasted years. My late cousin still used a Wakefield and Co oil can for lubricating stuff. That despite years ago it became Castrol.

I tend to get through loads of the stuff, as its great for spray all over the toy cars when they have got a bit too near the shoreline when playing on the beach.

Gets limited use otherwise, though I do lightly coat some of my tools with it every winter to help combat corrosion.

Good old faithful WD40. I’m trying to recall if WD40 was on my list of childhood flame throwers. You know, when you hold a lighted match/cigarette lighter and spray it across the flame.  ::)

It worked well with paint spray cans, although my dad wasn’t best pleased when the overspray went on his cigarette lighter.  ::) ;D

Makes excellent fly spray.

Drops them stone dead with one squirt.

None of this chasing the fly around the room until it finally dies. :)

Apparently, it's great for arthritis. Just spray it on the affected joint and you'll be bouncing around like a 19 year old in no time!  ;)
