Omega General Help / Exhaust manifold for a 2ltr 16v omega
« on: 28 November 2021, 08:51:38 »
Well along with my omega causing fun. I noticed that the manifold on the wifes omega, has a small hairline crack on the top of it.  I have found two new manifolds. The one is for no EGR and the other is for a car with EGR.  It also says it fits a 2.2 is it the same manifold for a 2ltr and a 2.2ltr? What I was wandering if I was to buy the one that is for no EGR, would it basicly be the same as blanking off the EGR, which I have been looking at doing due to age of the one on the car. And all the problems we have had with emissions. It also looks like it doesn't have the Secondary air system fittings on it, which I am also happy to delete as the pump is starting to make a noise.

This is says it fits a 2.0 16v and ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITHOUT EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION!

This is says it fits a OPEL VAUXHALL OMEGA B 2.0 VECTRA B 1.8 2.0 ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITH EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION

Thanks in advance, for any help

Omega General Help / Re: Power steering hoses.
« on: 28 November 2021, 08:34:57 »
Thanks for all the help. I bought some proper hydraulic hose and some decent jubilee clips. I cut out the old compression fitting, that you can see in the picture. Cleaned up the metal pipe then fitted a piece of the hydraulic hose and tightened the jubilee clips, until they wouldn't tight no more but the fluid was still sprayed out.  So in the end bought a 10mm water compression fitting from screwfix and tried that. It seems to be working, just got loads of air in the system so go to get it out. I was looking how the pipe routes, it looks like the radiators have to come out, to allow the complete pipe to come out from both sides. Or is can it be removed without removing the radiators, so I can get a new one made at a hydraulic place?

Thanks again for the help.

Thanks for all the help everyone has given. Could anyone tell me the recommended fluid, for the steering fluid?  Also can I just bleed it by turning the steering with the engine full left and right a couple of times?

Hi DG

Not yet. Wife decided she wants to go see her family, in Scotland Monday before they go into lockdown and weather changes. So she said her Omega needs a oil change and check over, before she goes. Only free day to do it was tonight. You just have to love their logic. ;D

Will get it sorted now, had advice from the members on here.

Thanks for the reply. So if I used the rubber hose piece, off a brake flexi hose to join the two parts and jubilee clips , would it work as long a internal diameter is same as outside diameter of metal pipes?

Thanks for the quick replies, you have both been very helpfull. I thought that the metal pipe, would be under high pressure, because of the compression joint and it being metal, that making a repair as suggested would of blown the joints apart? If I was to cut a bit up each side of the compression joint, then put in a piece of piping in with decent jubilee clips, not off ebay.

What sort of pressure am I looking for in the system, so I can get a matching or slightly higher pipe rating?

Thanks again

Omega General Help / Power steering hoses.

I was wandering if anyone could help me? I am trying to find the code for the metal pipe, that goes across the front of the radiators, for the steering system. Mine has decided to leak. Also the ones on each side of it. I think I have found the one but not sure. My logic is that if the one I can see is gone, the others might be going. I have put some pictures to show the one I am looking for. The pictures are from drivers side.

Thanks in advance for any help.

On the wifes omega, it was the hard lines from the main feed to each rear caliper. I bought these, they worked great no problems with fittings etc.

Thanks GastronomicKleptomaniac

Having great fun, taking the front driver side bits apart, just to remove the control arm. The brake bolt heads are rusty as anything, so had to tap a slightly smaller socket on, luckily they came out. One of the sliders has stuck in the caliper so wil be doing them again, even though were done, when shocks were done. Just fighting with the control arm, to steering knuckle ball joint bolt. Was thinking of getting new complete calipers as I did on Mags car.

Catch up with you soon

Hi
Would anyone know, the code for the large bolts that hold, the brake cradle onto the steering knuckle not the slider ones, or even know where I can get them?. The start of my VIN is :- W0L0VBM. I have included a photo, showing the piece I need the two bolts for.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Omega General Help / 2.6 steering assembly replacement
« on: 08 September 2021, 15:32:47 »
Hi

I was wandering if anyone can help?  I am updating my front steering parts, steering idler and replacing control arm bushes with polybushes. The question is, can the ball joints on the centre rod assembly be replaced, if so what are they called apart from ball joints or do you have to replace with a complete new one? If it has to be replaced complete apart from Lemforder has anyone had luck with any other make?

Recently replaced the front coils, shocks with new parts, also the track rods and drop links. But want to change the parts then get full geometry setup. Think I have found a place down the road from me, who setup expensive cars for track day etc. When I told them I wanted my Omega setup to the settings I have, not factory. They said no problem. Hopefully they are OK.

Thanks for any help.

I was suprised to find no auto adjuster on the handbrake mechanism. Just the wheel on the adjuster. I know it was on most old cars with drum brakes that used to have a lever, that rotated the shoes to keep them adjusted.

Would of made sense on the handbrake, seen as it works in the same sort of principal, except no cylinder to push the shoes out.

Thank you DG for the quick reply. Just thought I would check, especially it being brakes.  Will clean up and reuse.

I have started to rebuild the handbrake and rear discs, on my 1995 2.0 16V Omega estate. I took the handbrake lever out to clean and grease, as suggested because it was seized.

When I seperated the leaver the pin on the one end came out. Is it supposed to be loose, or is the lever broke?  I have included a photo, showing the part that has seperated.

Thanks for any help.
