General Discussion Area / Nice gesture to RAF Veteran
« on: 12 November 2013, 20:45:25 »
I don't know if this went national but quite a moving gesture from the great British public to an old RAF Bomber vet near Blackpool.

General Car Chat / Halfords wisdom
« on: 12 November 2013, 15:22:00 »
Popped in for a new battery for the works Chevy today and obviously wanted the cheapest one " you are aware that that battery is just for motorway driving aren't you" Erm Sorry what?  "yes it is purposely designed to have less power than a normal battery"

Apparently the staff are trained to inform customers choosing the cheapest battery this.........I bet they are ::)

After all that they gave me the wrong bloody battery as the terminals are the wrong way round  ;D

Bloody thing has turned into Christine :o it's taken to flashing the main beam at random but mainly at junctions, you can guess the chaos that is causing  ::).

Will be getting hold of a spare indicator switch tomorrow as this one is making crackling noises when it flashes.

Omega General Help / 2.5 block with 2.6 ecu?
« on: 07 November 2013, 18:40:56 »
A strange question, would a 2.5 engine be adaptable to run with a 2.6 ecu , throttle bodies, non egr manifolds etc added to it? if so what else would need to be added to it?

General Car Chat / Diesel MPG?
« on: 04 November 2013, 08:13:26 »
I do around 4-5 k a year and mostly round town so the 2.2 auto isn't making much sense with an average of 23 mpg so I was wondering what a 2.2 dti or 2.5 diesel manual/auto would realistically get ? I was thinking of an old xantia/306/405 run on veg oil but would prefer the comfort of the mig if feasible.

Omega General Help / P1130 and a rattle
« on: 27 October 2013, 18:55:14 »
Got this code and assume it's the front o2 sensor, does a change usually sort this or could it be something else?

Other issue is a rattle/vibration from drivers front end that I can actually feel through the pedals, had it up and all the suspension joints seem tight enough and the bones/topmounts are fairly recent, bit baffled to be honest! Any suggestions welcome!

2.2 petrol BTW

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Killed some solenoids
« on: 26 October 2013, 15:06:49 »
I scavenged 4 door solenoids from the scrappers and , in a moment of genius, decided to test them by touching the wires from part of the door loom to the terminals on the battery and got them all working, just tried testing them again with a full spare door loom plugged into my own car and not a sausage but operating them manually they lock and unlock the car! Have i fried them? if so how ? I don't understand this electrickity stuff.
