General Car Chat / V plate clit alarm
« on: 28 April 2011, 13:07:39 »
Sorry for this but the Renault OOF equivalent is pants!

The alarm on my son's 1.6 SI keeps going off when the weather warms up, anyone got any ideas for how to stop it? My understanding is that the alarm and immobiliser are within the same unit?  :y

Apply plenty of penetrating fluid and allow it to soak in first. Use a sharp centre punch on the outer edge, not too close, create an indentation and then angle the punch so the the head is being forced anticlockwise. The punch provides an impact as well as driving it round.  :y

Had a trip to my fav scrapyard last weekend, the miggy population had grown significantly. Sad to see several cars with limited damage which had been scrapped, even a nice elite. What makes it worse is the way they are treated when parts are taken from them.
I have two, a 2.6 which I bought in the summer - close to mint and my old 2.5 which spends more time in bits than on the road! SWMBO (not this time) wants me to get rid of the old girl - it's not going to happen! Cost £7800 10 years ago, fell in love as soon as I saw her and still a magic drive, when she is running!  :y
Most of my friends consider me to be a bit sad and derranged, what do i care, I have two beautiful miggys. :D

Don't tar them all with the same brush - some can be almost human  ;)

And in reference to the ageist comment  - at 54 should I be swapping my miggies in for a mobility scooter?  ::) ::) ;D

Yep :D :D :D

What do you mean "Yep"!!

Only if I can have one with self levelling suspension and go faster stripes.  ;D ;D ;D

Where is the recommended body shop near York? I need to get a bumper resprayed and York is my area.

I would be interested in joining you for a bit of chat and a lemonade or two. As I live in York I would most likely retire to the comfort of my home for the night! I cannot guarantee that I will bring company as she thinks that I am need of remedial therapy anyway due to my infatuation with miggies and the OOF. Always happy to do a bit a spanner twirling!  ;)

Ah so it must be 'delusions of grandeur'. Probably comes from driving around in big flash miggies! Or it may be overexposure to carb cleaner when cleaning out the breather pipes?  ;)

I am intrigued, what happens at a meet, is it just for the royalty - knights, barons etc..., do you have to own a caravan because she made me sell mine!  ;)

« on: 01 November 2010, 18:14:00 »
At last - my advancing years are a bonus  :D I have an Admiral multicar policy for my 2.6 Elite and Volvo S80 2.4, both fully comp with bells, the Volvo has non standard alloys. Also insured is my 23 year old son's clit 1.6SI and my 2.5 Elite both on 3rd party f&th, all for the princely sum of £760. I can drive them all, SWMBO can drive the 2.6 and the S80 and my son the clit. We all have clean licences and no claims. I am happy with the deal  :) :) :)

Called in on his way home, enticed by the offer of a decent coffee, a bacon buttie and Rik wailing in the background?  ;) ;)

I consider myself to be a fair DIY mechanic but watching Daz aka Darth Loo Knee fit a cambelt kit to my 2.6 was humbling. I did of course assit by making quality coffee! Didn't just do the kit, his checking of the timing was almost obsessive - just how you would want it. He also sorted my creaking door, found a bodged vacuum conection and taught me more about the ICV on my old 2.5 in 5 minutes than I have learned in a year! A real top bloke, thanks Daz.

p.s. I liked the chatter about cars, bikes, books & even education but what is it with you and the Rik Astley music? You need to get out more mate!  ;)
