Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Towbar wiring
« on: 21 April 2011, 15:14:36 »
Thanks for all of the help with this issue, especially to Kevin and AndyB for their expertise and Cliff for the home visit.

Job now done but without the proper VX connector - didn't have the time to wait!

For those who are interested I have connected the majority of the 13 pin wires to the wires going to the VX connector, I have followed Kevin's advice re the brake lights, in addition the supplier of the tow bar (very nice Westfalia detatchable) provided a relay for the fridge etc... I have checked the scotch loks provided and soldered most joints covering them with heat shrink sleeve. Although I have tested all terminals with a multimeter the real test will be when I pick up the van in a couple of weeks. :y

There's some information in this section if you search. I meant to do a guide a while back. There's a half-finished one on my PC somewhere..

Anyway, here's a few pointers:

Kevin

For anyone contemplating a tow bar install I'd recommend using the feed to the rear light cluster brake lights and forgetting about the signal in the prewired trailer connector. It makes for a slightly more messy installation in the back end, but saves having to mess about under the dash. It is the black and yellow wires, though. You'll find 2 of them going into the relay socket (along with a brown and a grey and black wire). Bridge the two black and yellow wires using 2 spade connectors with a short length of wire between them and leave the others disconnected.

I have read this explanation and must be having a senior moment - remind me (in simple terms please) why is it necessary to do this? Also are the two spade connectors and the joining wire going into the relay socket, hence are the two yellow/black wires being left disconnected?

I have included a photo of what I think the relay socket is, the problem is that the top wire going into terminal D is black and white not black and yellow! Terminal B has the only black and yellow wire.

This is the passengers side, is it necessary to do the same to the drivers side?

Time to lie down in a dark room!  :-[

Hell's teeth, this sounds like a nightmare to do! I am not confident at all with car electrics so would prefer to have it done by an expert who knows what they are doing - any recommendations?

Not really!  ;) There's only 13 wires & chances are you'll only be using 12 of them.  :y

I I have use photobucket correctly these are pictures of the connector in the boot of my omega, the electrical gubbins sent with the towbar and a close up of the relay and audible monitor.

Can anyone direct me towards instructions for wiring up a 13 pin socket to my 2002 2.6 Elite saloon?  :y

I have the 5 heat settings, but all of them give the same heat level i.e. zilch! At least the heater on the seat that SWMBO uses works (for now).  :y

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 Elite exhaust rumble?
« on: 31 August 2011, 20:31:55 »
I hadn't considered a misfire mainly as the vibration felt through the floorpan is so significant, also there is no indication through power loss that it is a misfire, Worth considering, thanks for the suggestion.  :y

Omega General Help / 2.6 Elite exhaust rumble?
« on: 31 August 2011, 17:52:01 »
The noise I am referring to is a low rumbling rattle which appears to be coming from directly underneath the passenger footwell. It only happen under specific conditions - engine warm, going uphill, usually a rough road surface, engine under pressure as I am towing a caravan, around 3000 revs. I have checked the exhaust and it appear to be rock solid, just passed mot as well. Am I looking at a baffle which develops a resonance rattle? If so are my only options to (a) ignore it or (b) replace the exhaust part?  :y

Omega General Help / Rear brake pad retaining pins
« on: 24 August 2011, 22:20:02 »
I have just replaced the rear brake pads on my 2002 2.6 Elite, the pads (Ferodo) were bought from my local motor factors who are reliable and very helpful. When I fitted them I had to reuse the old pins as the ones supplied with the new pads were about 10mm too short. I queried this with the motor factors but despite checking other pad kits and checking with different suppliers nothing of a similar length could be found.
I suggested that it may be because the rear discs are vented but the guy at the motor factors had checked later models with vented discs without success.
Does anyone have an answer to this issue or better still an OE number of a rear brake pad kit which includes retaining pins of the correct length? The short ones are 73mm in length.

Omega General Help / Reversing sensors

Is it possible to buy good quality after market reversing sensors? If so any recommendations as to where from, what sort of price are they and how difficult are they to fit? I have them on my Elite and my dad would benefit from having them on his car, tbh is is a Vectra rather than it better big brother but I would imagine that the kits are the same.
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Auto vs manual
« on: 10 May 2011, 22:23:37 »
Auto for me every time, both of mine are. Don't get me wrong I like the control with a manual and they can be great fun but I get so bored at having to press the clutch pedal every time!
Autos are great for motorway cruising especially with cruise control, they may be slightly less economical but if we are talking low 20s anyway you are skint already.  :y

Also great for getting around when you have bust your left ankle (yes, I did check with my doc and insurance).  :y

Sounds very reasonable! I think I may contact my local stealer and enquire about my 02 plate 2.6 Elite.....Evans Halshaw in York or do I go to Walkers in Selby? Can anyone make a recommendation?
EH quoted me £500 ish to replace an aircon pipe when it was only the schraeder valve which needed changing, plus they don't accept the OOF trade card, Walkers, on the other hand do accept the card and come across as very 'user friendly'.  :-/ :-/
02 2.6 will have an GS821 ECU, latest firmware for GS821 coupled to a V6 is v8

Thanks for this, I will investigate with the stealers.  :y
