General Car Chat / Re: BMW 530d Overhaul Thread - With Pictures
« on: 17 February 2017, 22:03:01 »
Why oh why do BMW still have this swerl flap problem, I love the way the pistons carried on with the screw in the bore, I wonder how many miles it's been like that?

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?

Fitted a new oil heat exchanger, the poor coolant turned to sludge in no time at all, needed a service anyway.

Last 2 weekends spent converting to manual gearbox and lsd. What a difference that made!

General Car Chat / Re: Stainless cat back ?

It took me ages but finally found a used jetex stainless system on eBay so they do pop up now and then, don't think I'd like to pay the full retail price!

I was toying with the idea of cutting down the old auto plastic as a starting base but would be easier if I knew what the manual plastic looked like in the first place, if anyone has pictures?

Still looking for one....

Just finished my manual conversion but need the gearstick gaitor, any condition as the leather can be replaced but the plastic can't.

Thanks Pete

Much appreciation if someone can move this to wanted please  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Thermostat or WP?

85deg while cruising at 70, felt that was a little low? Even heaters seemed colder than my preferred 22. Maybe I just don't do enough cruising  :-\

Having very similar issue with mine and guessed thermostat but I'll have to check that pipe first I guess, the thermostat sounds a pita job on the v6.

I just did a 600mile trip to Essex and only hit 90deg while giving it some, although around town it's fine.

Omega General Help / Re: Lowering

Vx want what will sell, I want something with no arch gap and a tidy fitmemt to the tyre.

Obviously the car and suspension is designed to all be at the stock high, anything different I guess sacrifices will be made.

I really don't know how that can happen, my estate is -50 on front and -40 rear, yes the exhaust catches slightly on speed humps and the towbar down the other side but even full of rouble in the boot I haven't hit anything major. Are the saloons that different?

I am mearly saying you can go more than the advice of 30/20mm, it's pretty obvious the lower you are the closer it'll be to speed humps and the less suspension travel will give a harder ride but I'd do it all over again and more of it was cheap enough!!!

You can go lower, just requires camber correction bushes

Could do with knowing the tamiya chassis codes, I'm goin to guess ta02? If the transmitter matches the cars I'd sell them as a package. I don't think on there own the controllers would be worth much.

I do like my old tamiya cars but bugger me they are slow compaired to new designs. And yes that it with the same equipment before you start fitting brushless tech.
