I went to Burnley today .... someone has to every now & then ;)
There was a house for sale further up the road from where I was going so, to be nosey I looked to see how much it was for sale at. The estate agent obviously had other houses for sale and there right at the bottom of the list were 3 houses for a price not even I thought you could buy a house for .... :o :o :o :o

One's got sitting tenants, the second is a repossession and the third is the reserve at auction.

i know ... but even so. You could almost buy them in your credit card. If you double it you could buy one of these

Here's one in Barnsley, a straightforward sale:

DSS houses so a possible investment provided......they pay the rent (or the DSS does)......they don't trash the place.
I have done this in the past but the hassle outweighs the possible income.

Especially with the new tax regime for buy to let landlords.

Well this was a long time ago but trying to get the rent was a problem......as was damage. :-\

It remains so, from what I understand.
For most it doesn't make sense anymore compared to a pension I don't think.

And to think my daughter pays over 2 grand a month rent for a one bed flat in central London. Apparently its market value is not far short of a million quid. This morning she notified the landlord she would no longer take her rubbish bins outside to the area provided, as despite him being warned about the rat infestation outside the building, she actually stood on a firkin great live rat this morning !
More like different planets than a couple of hundred miles part in the same country !

When I was into property rentals some years ago, I found that repo's could almost always be bought well under the asking price. Apparently, in those days, once the tenant had failed all attempts to stave off the inevitable, ownership reverted to insurance companies that had insured the banks' loans. Presumably they finished up with no end on their books and were happy to get rid. I bought two about 25% off. Happy days for me, but sad for those who had to move out.
Also, for anyone else considering doing this, the % return buying two up and two down terraced houses was a no brainer compared to more expensive det. properties. :y
I had a good system for 'vetting' prospective tenants, and thus never had an unplanned rent void. I never took DSS tenants, probably illegal now, if not then, and so they were not usually spending 24/7 in the property.
IIRC that tenants now have the DSS rent paid to them now and not direct to the landlord, so another good reason for avoiding DSS. :y

Yes, a fu£king stupid Tory idea that the Lib Dems did nothing to stop. ::) (Un)Surprisingly its just driven up arrears and evictions, and further entrenched landlord's (justified) dislike of DSS tenants.

I understand there have been, and probably still are, terraced houses in cities, especially Liverpool that I have seen on tv, that have been sold by the local authorities for £1. The buyer has to invest, I believe £30-40K, to dramatically refurbish what are almost empty shells and the work has to be completed within a certain time scale.
So these 'bargains' are out there, but I fear definetly NOT in London or the South East generally! ::) :( ;)

Those prices are absolutely insane :o :o :o

but you haven't seen Burnley ::) ::) ;)

Can't say that I have :)
We did strongly look at move up north to Leeds or surrounding areas, due to the type of property we could get. Was not quite for us in the end.

.....
I don't think you're missing much, though the surrounding area is nice.

Closest I’ve been is Harrogate, loved that area.

That's the posh & expensive part of Yarkshire ;) ;)

I was recently considering a buy-to-let, last one all worked out incredibly well, but changed mind due to hassle factor and remote (very remote I hope) possibility of a Corbyn Government.

It would've been funny if it wasn't so sad & true. And from a time when Clarkson was still using BBC English ;D

They look like lovely houses. Probably ideal if you have a strong crack habit as there'll be a dealer just next door :y :P :P
