seems over designed to me, the fuel system is massively complex it seems. It runs at something like 340 bar!!:

swirl flaps also affects other marques, which i didnt realise until reading some of the links.

The synic in me suggests they are there to keep the work shops busy and fleece its customers with repair bills.
From what i hear from first hand info, BMW do not consder it a warranty issue. No change there.

Happened to a mate of mine with his 730d. Engine failed just outide the 3 year warranty & cost £9k for a new engine.

BMW UK eventually agreed to pay 75% but he had to pay the dealership in full before getting the car back & then wait weeks for BMW to reimbursehim weks later

UK TDs have swirl chambers, so not affected.

Later Opel TDs (commonrail) may be affected.
