Headlight Alignment Omega V6
« on: 30 March 2009, 17:32:21 »

Hi,

I'm posting this to try and help my dad out (he's a very active 70).

His 2002 Omega V6 2.6 has failed it's MOT (by Vauxhall) because his headlight aim is too low.  They said it needs a new near side sensor, but don't have any in stock.  He's tried AutoVaux, but they gave him the run around and quoted him inconsistent prices.

To be honest, I think the only reason Vauxhall noticed the problem was because it reports the problem on the dash (apparently).

My question:  What is this sensor, where can I get one from, and how easy are they to fit?

Alternatively, can the headlights be adjusted manually?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I'm in Lincoln, he's in Bradford (and is not too internet savvy).  So, there's some sort of mechanical arm on the sensor?  Where is the sensor?  Obviously, I'm going to be phoning this info thru to him.  Could be fun!!

Be aware though that there are 2 sensors for the HID head lights, front nearside wishbone & rear nearside radius arm. Same sensor - £50ish - different bracket. :y
If the dealer say fns, have they put the Tech II on the car to 'ask' it? :-/

Thanks for the prompt replies!

How come there are 2 sensors?

Which one is 'most likely' to have failed? - Yeah, I know that's a crap question.....

Where are the breakers on the site?

Many thanks.

there are 2 so the headlight ecu knows exactly how the car is sat at any point, and adjust aim appropriateely.

Most cars with HID/Xenon headlights use a similar setup

Cheers.  Are the sensors the same unit?  ie, can I buy a single replacement and try it in both front and rear positions to determine which one is faulty?

Ah - just seen, they are the same!!

How do I contact the breakers for price/availability on this site?  Sorry for being a bit dim.....

Send them a PM :y

Edit: you may not need any parts if the sensor arm has popped off.

Have a read through this..........
