Ignition problems
« on: 22 August 2007, 17:49:17 »

A friend of mine drives a 1997 2,0 16v  and has asked me for help (now thats a joke for a start)

but as i have been bragging at work about this Forum he asked ;D ;D ;D

Anyway here goes:

He can`t allways get the key into the ignition, describes it as if the steering lock was on and you have`nt turned the wheel.

When he does get the key in he can turn the Ignition on(all lights on in the dash) but it won`t allways start.

any ideas :o :o

i said it must be the lock can`t think of any other problem it could be

Or....remove the barrel, carefuly (they ar pwered by spings so you need to be careful) remove the key whilst retaining the tumblers.....clean the tumblers on a very fine piece of wet and dry....clean the barrel and then re-fit.

Put the key in the barrel and use a fine file to re-shape the tumblers.....job done!
