General Car Chat / Mot/Vosa/dvla database contents
« on: 23 December 2014, 17:59:04 »
Took the omega for its test today (passed without issue) but one daft thing quickly became obvious.

Tester asked about the car and I confirmed 3.2 elite estate. He says computer says 2.2. Looking into the system further shows my reg as a 2.2 diesel elite and not a petrol 3.2. He was able to change fuel to petrol as well as engine size but nothing else.

Same garage and tester I've used for years so nothing he has input so down to database management.  My V5 shows correct info so main database is sound.

In this day and age you would think that the various agencies would use a cojoined  approach with regards to information?     ::)

Agree entirely, Broocie. The wife, as a headteacher, is being asked to, more or less, take over all of the parenting skills which the kids usually get at home. Every thing from sex education to female genital mutilation, to child brides to brushing their teeth. Not forgetting child protection issues.
Police can't police properly with dwindling resources and growing workload, just as teachers can't teach when they are trying to look after every aspect of social welfare.

Same in my household. Wife is in nursery and daughter primary. This year, she is primary one/two for the first time in poss 8 years qualified. It's an eye opener to her in many ways. Fek knows how the hard of thinking get by as its challenge enough for someone with both brains and feelings.....

What a daft idea by the do-gooders.

I'm all for banning drivers from smoking, in the same way I'm not allowed to scoff a pie whilst driving.  But "to protect the children", what a bunch of namby pamby, trailer trash mongrels we're turning into  >:(

Really? when there is good evidence that early exposure (in childhood) to cigarette smoke is linked with a variety of respiratory illness in adult life. Evidence that passive smoke inhalation increases the use of healthcare by children? When the fact that smoking in a closed tiny environment like a car can expose innocent children to thousands of toxins at very high concentration levels (that they havent asked to inhale)? Children who cannot defend themselves against this evil?

Put yourself in the role of enforcement of this particular piece of legislation.

Join it in with all the other bits of legislation you need to look out for.

Add a smidge of assault, wife/hubby beating, drug dealing, shop lifting, Facebook trolling and a Miriam of other minutae on the legal scale and requirements thereof and give a reviewed assessment.

Yes, smoking in the confines of a car is bad. not denying that in any way. Just needs thinking through so as to get best results all round - and that's not just from a kids medical viewpoint.  :)

I used to be a police crash investigator and am university qualified in that regard as well as classed as an expert witness in such matters in court proceedings.

It is always easier to categorise a crime scene at its most serious (murder most foul?) rather than a backhander across the mouth when, if the victim subsequently dies as a result of the backhander,  to try to recreate the evidential crime scene after several hundred or ore peoe/vehicles have tramped through it. if that makes sense.

If a crash scene is categorised as 'likely to prove' (fatal) then it is treated as a major crime scene.

It's easier to scale such things downwards than upwards.

To use a total survey system (geodimeter or similar) to accurately scale locus and its debris, brake wheel marks and resultant positions etc does take time. A handful of hours is easily a regular timescale.

Compare the time that the White paper boiler suited staff take under a plastic tent outside a house in a local housing estate where a body is found and transpose that response to the M6 Southbound or similar and reassess.

Perhaps not the clearest of explanations but it's been a long day for me and kinda tired.

No chance in this world that MX5 is standard.  It wouldn't get close to a 3.2 in a straight line dash.

It'll piss all over a 3.0 though!  ;D

Apart from a de cat a stainless steel exhaust and a power sapping pipercross air filter it was standard. I know because it was mine and it shut the hairdresser name callers up for a little while  ;D ;D

Didn't beat mine though.......  :-)

And the rear alpine lights. If you have spare sealant, use it up round them!

203
Also, would suggest that you do the front one at the same time

Oh I will be don't worry, I don't wanna go through all that again, once is bad enough  >:( >:( >:(

Then I'll be water-tight for winter.  :y

Only got the annoying interior light flicker problem & intermittent non-starting problem which I know may sound strange, but I think are linked somehow  ??? ??? :-\ :-\

Jason, pop off the roof bars while in there and seals those buggers too, found out they can leak too,cue stripdown number 2 :-X

Agreed. Mine doesn't have roof bars. Luckily!

204
For the non start its prob the starter solenoid. The fuel pressure regulator also leaks and the leakage drips down onto, you guessed it, the starter and solenoid....

 ::) ;D

Also, would suggest that you do the front one at the same time. Be a shame to have to take the roof lining etc out again to do the front at some future time.....   ;D :y

Once you get the inside and outside parts of the cassette separated (12 or more screws?) then obviously clean all old sealant etc off and use panel wipe on the surfaces as well as the outer roof skin.

When I done mine I used Wurth rtv sealant in the pressurised can where you can vary bead and delivery speed.   I replaced the outer first then the inner and gradually and evenly tightened the screws as if tightening a head down. Also worth sealing around the corner portions where the drain pieces are 'sealed' at the factory into the lower cassette before its offered up!  And obviously ensuring the drain pipes are clear before putting them back into place.

After both of mine were done it's been as dry as a celibates whatsit ever since and no condensation/foul smell probs since.

Good luck!

our son is saying that we cannot pass it on outwith the family so will wait and see what develops.

TBH, would not be happy to part with it.  Done too much over too long and spent too much cash on it to get that back.

Lowered stiffened suspension, bushed front and rear, brakes are absolutely cock on, dry engine, gen irmscher rear box with new centre sections, two new Goodyear F1's on the rear with less than 100 miles on and two new ones in the garage for the front when they eventually fall over..

Freck me, cant actually list all that's been done to maintain and improve this over the past 5 years, without getting close to the realms of tacky.

And yes, its gold.  Champaign gold metallic.  One of the best colours to have to not show road grime.....   ;)

As acquired.

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=44764.0

Needs a clean and some minor fettling.  Used now as a second (3rd?) car and a good seeing to would have it back to my standard.

Family circumstances sadly changing and basic costs such as tax and insurance coming into play.

Not a situation I (we) are looking forward to.  Might not happen but worth a wee toe in the water.

Ho hum.....
