Omega General Help / Fuel consumption.
« on: 15 February 2009, 08:17:40 »
Hello all,

I'm thinking of getting rid of the wifes 2.5 auto estate. I've had if for 8 years but cannot stop it losing water.
I'm considering a 3.0litre estate next if I can find a decent one. Is there much difference in consumption?
I'll also be using it to tow a caravan.

I cannot think of a better estate than the Omega and wish Vauxhall still made them.

Regards

Steve

Omega General Help / Loss of water
« on: 12 February 2009, 08:08:31 »
Hello all,

I'm still losing coolant from my 98 2.5v6,
It does not appear to be dripping out anywhere.

When I remove the cap to top up, a lot of air seems to gurgle out and I can here this gurgling noise around the plenum chamber area as well.

Could it be a leaking inlet manifold or head gasket?

It has been losing water for over a year now, there is no water in the oil. The car is now losing a pint or so a week.

Thanks
Steve

Omega General Help / Loss of oil, water and heavy fuel consumption.
« on: 25 February 2008, 18:53:13 »
Hello all.
I have a '99 2.5GLS Automatic petrol estate. I've owned it for over 7 years. I had the rocker box gaskets replaced about five years ago. Recently it has started to lose water-from where I don't know. It has also started leaking oil-again I cannot find where from though I do suspect the rocker box gaskets. The water loss has increased even after adding Radweld. Also petrol consumption has greatly increased.

The car has done 100,000 miles. Is it time to scrap the car and find a new one? The cam belt is due for replacement and I am loath to spend over £200 to ind that the engine is u.s.

Many thanks

Steve Brookman

Hello all,

I have a towbar for a minifacelift estate. I had it fitted 10 years ago-I think it's a Witter-£30

Also an original genuine Vauxhall metal dog guard for the estate-£30

Both items pick up only.

Cheers

General Car Chat / Been looking at this
« on: 02 August 2011, 16:19:57 »
whilst looking for a replacement for the Elite estate I came across this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190554468513&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Looked interesting until reading a bit further down it turned out to be a cat c.
Nice though.

General Car Chat / Wheel Rotation
« on: 17 May 2011, 17:06:57 »
Hello all,

Just had a puncture repaired in a tyre on my Range Rover.

On putting the wheel back on noticed that the tyre was put on the wrong way round-the rotation arrows are the wrong way.

Is there a problem with this.

Cheers

General Car Chat / Fiesta Gear Change
« on: 09 March 2011, 22:39:14 »
Evening all,

Just went out in the wifes 1.3 Fiesta (don't laugh) and on the way back had gear selector problems. Had difficulty selecting 1st and 2nd-had to really push the gearlever to the left and then pull it to the right for 3rd etc. Previously it was an excellent gearchange.

Obviously selector problems but any ideas would be appreciated (rather than buy a box of matches).

Cheers

General Car Chat / Ford Fiesta Oil
« on: 15 January 2011, 14:26:50 »
Hello all,

Just bought a 99 Fiesta (!).
It's got the old 1.3 8 valve engine and not the 16 valve 1.25.
It says in the book to use 5w 30 but I've got gallons of Vauxhall 10w 40.
I can't see any problem using it.

Any thoughts?

General Car Chat / LPG'ing my MIG
« on: 08 January 2011, 16:52:15 »
Hello all,

I've been toying with the idea of getting a small diesel for the wife as the Elite is getting a little expensive to run.
She, however, likes the Elite ("It's nice and comfortable with heated seats!")-as do I!

What is the cost of gassing the mig-it's a minifacelift 3.0.

Any advice good o bad would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

General Car Chat / Cheap diesel run around
« on: 31 December 2010, 18:42:40 »
Hello all,
Looking for a cheap (500ish) runaround for the wife.
Thought about a Peugeot 306 D Turbo, Astra   (I've had Peugeot petrols in the past).
Any thoughts or suggestions on other cars would be most welcome.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Home from holidays again.
« on: 26 August 2010, 16:52:13 »
Just returned from Christchurch with the caravan on the back. Again (apart from door problem) the Omega performed faultlessley averaging 20mpg according to the trip computer.
Since changing the HBV-no water used at all.

General Car Chat / Didn't see many Omegas towing
« on: 03 August 2010, 09:46:59 »
Just got back from two weeks in sunny Brixham towing the caravan.

On the way only saw one Omega towing a caravan-a nice silver 3.2 Elite which I overtook.

On the site there was only one 2.2DTi saloon and on the way back I saw an estate coming the other way.

Five years ago i remember counting around ten Omegas on the one site I was staying at.

General Car Chat / MPG Towing
« on: 12 June 2010, 09:33:30 »
Hello all,
What MPG do members get towing a caravan?

I usually get around 19mpg with the wifes 3.0litre, towing a 1400kg caravan.
