General Car Chat / Back from hols
« on: 08 April 2010, 18:14:31 »
Just returned from a week in  Brixham. Took the caravan. On the way down it was very windy-the car rarely got into top gear-I think I got about 15mpg.

Totally different on the way back-car in top nearly all the way and back up to 19-20mpg.

Car behaved perfectly as alaways.

General Car Chat / Better gearchanges with new exhaust
« on: 19 February 2010, 10:57:11 »
Had a new Eternal exhaust put on the other day-the old one had been blowing for many months. The auto box now seems to change much more smoothley-could this be down to the new exhaust?

Hello all,
Just been looking around ebay and noticed some new exhaust suppliers. This is one below from Germany.

Sorry don't know how to do the link.

Also there is a Polish company selling as well.

General Car Chat / National Tyres Exhaust
« on: 28 October 2009, 11:22:51 »
Popped into National tyres this morning to have two tyres fitted to my Range Rover (tyres from www.tyre-shopper.co.uk).

Wifes Elite estate needs a new exhaust which I priced at around £130 from eternal car. Thought i'd have a laugh and ask how much from National tyres-£415 for the same parts (three silencers)-admittedly this was including fitting and a little discount!

About to place the order with Eternal Car. I remember I bought an exhaust for my 2.5 estate over 5 years ago and this cost over £300 at a local exhaust center.

General Car Chat / Omega to France
« on: 25 August 2009, 11:00:20 »
Hello all.
Just returned from two gloriously sunny (80-90 degrees) and hot weeks in the Vendee. Took the Elite estate. Covered around 1100 miles-850 of these towing a large fully laden caravan with three bikes on the car roof. Overall consumption was 20.4mpg according to the trip computer. Car performed faultlessly-just glad I had the climate regassed a few months ago.
Did have a few wiffs of oil after getting out of the car after long towing stretches-but had this with the previous 2.5 estate-I'll check the rocker gaskets.
I've said it before-but I wish Vauxhall still made the Omega-theres no estate around at the moment that comes anywhere close.

General Car Chat / Tyres and advisories
« on: 28 July 2009, 12:14:40 »
Just had 4 new tyres fitted to the wifes car-supplied by tyreshopper.com (£50 each-225/55 16) and fitted by my local N...... Tyres.
As always when having tyres fitted here they always come up ewith a list of advisories

1-Inner track rod end has too much play.
2-Exhaust badly corroded.
3-rear shocker badly corroded.
4-Front and rear disks need replacing.

I know theres a bit of rust here and there but the funny thing is my mechanic friend took it to his garage a week ago to give it a once over for the holidays and apart from new brake pads there was nothing noticably wrong.

The same fitting centre also advised me 12 months ago that the rear tyres on my range Rover were nearly at their limit-a year and 6000 miles later there is still plenty of tread in them.

I'll give it a look over-but it's a funny old world :-?

General Discussion Area / Back from holidays.
« on: 06 June 2010, 08:33:41 »
Hello all,

Just spent a week at Brockenhurst in the New Forest. Lovely place.
Omega towed the caravan like a dream again. Even managed (according to the computer) 20mpg on the way back (I reset the computer before leaving).

What I did notice on the way back was that if I stayed behind a lorry at 55mph (pleny of space though)
, the gearbox stayed mostly in top gear. Perhaps it's like Formula 1 where you get caught in the drag.

General Discussion Area / Trade Card in South wales
« on: 27 March 2010, 14:26:08 »
Anyone used their Trade card in Southern Vauxhall in Merthyr or Hutchings Vauxhall near Ponypridd. I need some parts with my ABS Trade card and wondered if anyone had used these.

General Discussion Area / Trade Card
« on: 22 March 2009, 09:53:13 »
Hello all.

Is the only way to get a trade card by joining Autobarnstormers?

And also does anyone have a list of vauxhall garages in South wales that accepts the trade card.

Kind regards

Steve
