I know its not an Omega, but it was time to move on after 3 Omegas over 8 years, and thought you would like to see my new toy......Well it is still GM..

Yeah its a 3.6 auto with electric everything.
No rain sensor wipers though, but it does have fully automatic lights to make up for it!
Nowhere to put anything inside, but again cup holders make up for that.

Definitely quicker than my old 3.2 Elite, firmer suspension too.

Even has voice recognition for the nav/audio system, and a TV/DVD player... 8-)

I gave 6900 for it with 22k on the clock, my first 40k Elite was nearly 2k more than that!

You say it handles better than you Omega - what's the ride like?

I'm thinking a couple of years ahead........I like the look, and would stick a Griffin badge on it FTW!

I've not really thrown it around much yet, but its stiffer than my old Elite, and rolls less in corners.
Seats are softer and more comfy, but the leather is not as good as VX.
Strangely, the TC on/off is in the passenger glovebox!
Luckily there are configurable buttons on the steering wheel, so I've re-configured TC to my left thumb just in case I need to show off sideways. I guess most people would set them for radio tuning or similar.

Depreciation can work well for those of us who can't afford new!

About the leather - IIRC, leather interiors as we know them, will have now been made illegal. Summat to do with the processes being highly dangerous.
The leather we used when I did interiors was from China, and made to these new regs - it was like cardboard, scratched easily and smelled horrible. Bit of Gliptone Leather Restorer helped in the smell department, and made it a little more supple, so maybe less likely to crack.

But I digress.............

Why didn't Vauxhall have Caddy CTS as Omega replacement?
I think it's a logical step!

Well, looking at the Catera, this is its official Successor, so its quite an replacement.

Also, the 2.6 and 3.2 engines where straight from the Omega, the 3.6 is the same engine used by Holden (Alloytec), Plus, the floorpan also is developped at Holden.

So it must be a good car in essence.

Talk about some M5 competition.

in the states there are tuner companies that can turn out 500-700hp out of these cars making them truly beasts on the road...

It ain't gonna be great, that's for sure!!!!!

Personally, I wouldn't buy one if I was worried about MPG.
Luckily, I'm not - that's why I drive a thirsty Omega.............

According to Parkers website, 24 mpg overall compared to 23 with my old Elite 3.2.

Power is up at 257bhp vs Omega 213bhp

Top speed lower at 145 vs Omega 149

0-60 a full second quicker, 7 secs vs Omega 8 secs

That sounds like a very respectable trade-off, given the extra OOmphh, and I don't reckon the difference in top speed would hold up to scrutiny in actual road use, though where you would be able to crank it up beyond 140 on the Queens Highway to do a comparison, I do not know?

Well no, it is only in US its replacement, you had the Monaro coupe and now the VXR8.

We on the otherhand (ze germans), have no replacement at all for it.

Just found out top speed is only lower than my old Elite because then CTS is limited..

It has a fuel cutoff limiter apparently, no sudden loss of power, but it just won't go faster than 148, this is computer limited....

0 to 60 a bit quicker than I thought too...

'The stock CTS 3.6L Automatic does 0-60mph in approximately 6.4-6.6 sec'.

No where can I try that out...

The side repeaters are only on European/UK spec vehicles, so no aftermarket lenses are available.
I'm wondering if the Omega or any other GM clear lens units would be a straight swap?

We will find out in the next few days, as I'm starting a new job with a 50 mile round trip commute tomorrow.
Around town its been around 15-16 mpg, but hey, its smiles per mile that count...

After a weeks driving, 55 mile round trip to work, A roads, dual carrageways and a bit of town driving mixed in, average was 25 mpg......

For some reason I switched the sytem over to metric, and MPG vs KPL did not match up..

Some research has discovered that the car is calibrated to American gallons not English, so while the computer correctly shows fuel consumption at 9.5L per 100Km, that equates to just under 30MPG in UK gallons....

I measured this on a Bedford to Southampton round trip which my Omegas always did at 30 to 32 MPG, so now much happier with the CTS's figures
