Calibration MID
« on: 16 April 2021, 15:38:56 »

Hi guys,
I notice MID display differences in both total / km and instantaneous consumption ant consumption/100Km.
These appeared after changing the engine computer ( ECU ).
Is it possible to adjust the display on MID ????[/b]

Regards, Marcel

If you changed nothing else, it shouldn't have changed anything.

Wheel/tyre/gearbox/diff affect it. Like for like, the engine ecu should make zero difference :-\

Hello, thanks for the reply.
Do you think a restart of the ECU program would help my problem?

Disconnecting the battery for a spell might 'reset' it, but it should correct itself with use if the issue is that it remembers the data from the previous car.

Of course, this all presumes that the MID is the correct one for your exact vehicle ie body type/tyre size/ fuel type/engine and gearbox...

Hi !
The MID has not been changed! It is the original one of the car.
The wheels are still unchanged (their size).
Only the CPU was changed together with the ignition key immobilizer.

Sincerely,
Marcel

The MID is configured based on car features (things like Xenon Headlights etc), but also on drivetrain such as engine, gearbox and wheel size, and its the drivetrain bits that determine how accurate the fuel computer reads.

So if you have only changed the engine ECU, it might be worth checking what that ECU is configured as, as it might be sending info back to the MID for the wrong engine type.

All this needs a Tech2, I'm not aware of any 3rd party tool that can change it.

In addition, it is possible to fine calibrate the MIDs (but not GID/CID) via Tech2 to make it super accurate, but this is rarely needed.

doesn't the ECU have to relearn " total / km and instantaneous consumption and consumption/100Km" after reboot anyway  :-\

Nope.  Because the engine ecu provides a fuel usage signal based on injection timings, and the ABS unit provides the speed signal as pulses (probably the average of the 2 rears axles rotations).

The MID uses the fueling signal from the engine ECU and modifies it based on the MID's engine config, and the ABS signal that it modifies based on wheel size. Thus is can start presenting info straight away.

Obviously those that are an average, say, average MPG, means it has to get enough pulses from the ABS (eg, 10,000 pulses (around 0.25 miles)) to be able to work out an average.

Range needs some history, as its based on the average MPG over the last few miles.  So goes desperately bullshit for a few miles after the MID resets.
