This is all your fault!
« on: 18 November 2006, 16:36:25 »

This has absolutely nothing to do with me making fun of Timbuk's Omega problems!  :-/  That, or Kev mistook my car for Timbuk's and came all the way to Cov to prove a point.  ;)

Yes, to quote the great uno-nad, it's the *&(%^^&%$*((&*)) CRANK SENSOR!!!  >:(

And it happened exactly at 12:30 when VX closes . . .

And I got a 1hr ride home on the bus for my troubles  . . .

And these double-decker buses make me thoroughly ill . . .

And my g/f was giving me grief all the way home about opening my big mouth and making fun of Timbuk . . .  ::) :P

And now I get another 1hr ride on the bus on Monday to got to VX, get wrong part, go back to car and fix it on the side of the road . . .  >:(

And I was just thinking how I was enjoying my new miggy and wouldn't have to touch it until it got warm again . . . .  :-[

Big thanks to Timbuk for leaving me his jackstands, giving us a ride to the bus station, and generally being a great guy!  Big thanks to TB for taking SOS calls on a Sat afternoon, and helping nail down the diagnosis in less than 10 mins.   :y

For future reference, code 19 didn't show up if turned the ignition off.  Got the car to start, it died after 1-2mins, checked codes without turning ignition off after it died and 19 finally showed up.  Wasn't showing up when the car wouldn't start.

19 = incorrect rpm signal
31 = no rpm signal (hence why normal if car not running)

I reckon that you were getting no rpm signal, hence why it would start. When it did start and ran for a couple of mins, started getting duff signals, so promptly cut out, and stored a 19.

Bugger it had to happen today, and gotta wait until Monday to get part (assuming they have one in stock)  >:(

It didn't store a 19 after the first time it started.  Turned ignition off and tried cranking it again before checking codes, so may have cleared it somehow.

I think the people here are trying to put a curse on us!  All this chanting about "Your crank sensor is going to fail" is bringing in bad Karma!  ;) ;D

Mine was fine until I came over to your place when your car wasn't there.  It was protecting mine somehow!

Of course I did finally take most of my tools and the big box of parts out of the trunk last night.  That was probably protecting it too.  ::)

Oh, he wants to hear the rest of the story does he?  This is beyond a coincidence, this is personal!  If I ever meet my guardian angel there will be words!  Words I say!!!

Earlier this morning;

I go out to the car and it won't unlock.  The LED isn't blinking on the remote and the range has been 4' lately so I realise that the battery is completely dead.  Of course the door cylinder doesn't work, probably from never being used.  So I go back in the house and get the other key.  Everything's happy, go over to Timbuk's to pick up some stuff.

I joke to Timbuk about how my car wouldn't start, actually wouldn't unlock, b/c his is dead.

I say how it was a lucky break that the remote died at home where I had a spare.

He has my torx sockets b/c working on his car.  I tell him to keep them, I don't need them.

We talk about how well maintained 1,500 quid miggys are way more reliable than 500 quid beaters.

I go to leave and the car won't start . . .

Yes, I was tempting fate, and fate showed up and smacked my @$$!!!   ;) ;D

Actually it is a good idea, cos when it goes it goes, Great for you guys, but I am no mechanic by any means, so when mine wnet I was pretty much stuffed. i actually phoned the VX dealers in london, when it wnet in Dundee, cos they know my car, and said crank/rpm sensor, what did AA say can't find any fault, but when VX in Dundee tech2'D it, was the sensor, so I e-mailed AA and informed them. :y

Dont worry about it Martin, DBW's (well my 2.2 can) still starts with crank sensor disconnected, struggles a bit and puts it in limp home mode, but at least doesnt leave you stranded  :y

Not sure if v6 is same...  ...still can't believe yours does - though I've seen it with my own eyes run with no crank sensor and a knackered cam sensor  :o
