I think im going to buy a crank sensor and stick it in the boot because if I do the one on the engine will never go because im prepared ::)
Since breaking down in France last year, I always carried one. Until a few weeks ago, when I gave it to someone, and ain't replaced it yet  :-[

Actually it is a good idea, cos when it goes it goes, Great for you guys, but I am no mechanic by any means, so when mine wnet I was pretty much stuffed. i actually phoned the VX dealers in london, when it wnet in Dundee, cos they know my car, and said crank/rpm sensor, what did AA say can't find any fault, but when VX in Dundee tech2'D it, was the sensor, so I e-mailed AA and informed them. :y

I think I'm going to Ebay my daughters Bratz collection, Playstation game ect and put the money towards a crank sensor

Dont worry about it Martin, DBW's (well my 2.2 can) still starts with crank sensor disconnected, struggles a bit and puts it in limp home mode, but at least doesnt leave you stranded  :y

Not sure if v6 is same...  ...still can't believe yours does - though I've seen it with my own eyes run with no crank sensor and a knackered cam sensor  :o
