Oxford meet no.5
« on: 22 November 2010, 22:30:36 »

I thought we could try and fit in a final Oxford meet of this year before Christmas.
As it is now rather cold, I think an indoors meet would be better, or we'll all freeze to death.
Open to suggestions and ideas of places and times  :y

 ;D I know Chris...the only thing I thought of, which I knew you'd hate would be;
Brackley...Curry...Cobra Beer  ;)

Perhaps a large Curry meet then? Just as long as they serve chicken and chips I'll be ok  ::)

You're quite right Chris...it's never too easy organising something inside.
Perhaps a pub meet?
Car museum?

Well it was only an idea as its end of year XMAS and all that But was suggested by the mrs as its car related/warm and easy to find.

Decent idea, but sure it was something daft like £25 earlier in year when I went (not that I paid that - she gets me in cheap ;))

Doesn't look too bad. Gift aid it and get 12 months admission too. That would do quite a few meets. :y

Bit of a trek for those of us "daan saaf", but I've not been to Gaydon for a few years so would be up for it. :y

I think Gaydon's a good idea. I had a quick look through their website and there's some very interesting things there  :y

They have a large (normally deserted) car park too.

Can't remember if they have food, but bound to be a curry house not far away. ;)

They have a canteen - hot food reasonably priced, healthy shite overpriced.

If we are planning a meet in their carpark, I suspect we need to ask their permission?

Nowhere inside really, except the canteen, to congregate, from what I remember.

The carpark is pretty big though.  Shame we can't get on the test track  :-X

Apart from the pub in the village - suitable only for toffs - there is absolutely bugger all nearby. Leamington or shitsville Banbury. Or Tiffins.

There is that One-Horse town called Brackley on the way home. I wonder if that has a curry house? ::)

Given notice, I should be able to juggle around...  ...but we are only 4 weeks to Christmas, so a decision needs to me made quickly.

Ok - assuming it's going to be one of the weekends between now and Christmas it will be either next weekend 4th/5th, or 11th/12th, or 18th/19th.

Personally - I reckon the Heritage Centre would be an excellent venue when the weather is warmer and the go-karts are running again - but granted the museum is worth a visit and you can get free entry again if you subscribe to Gift Aid. The Cafe does well  :-/ :-/ er Cafe stuff - I wouldn't suggest a full meal there but certainly a cuppa and a cake. Entry is £9 iirc
OR - if the curry is the primary objective - and we know one that seems to fit the bill quite nicely - why don't we rendevous nearby (maybe the ex Braun GP industrial park near the Tesco roundabout at Brackley) for meet and greet in one of the car parks there - if I can make it I'll take some snaps too.
For me the Sundays are out and I can only make either the 4th or 18th.

SO - nail a date - and do you want to meet at the Heritage and retreat to Brackley for a curry - or save the Heritage for another date and go for a meet and greet at Brackley - OR something else  :question

Cheers
Ian.  :y

Pretty certain thats now barriered, so can't get in.  Not passed it for a while, but would assume Mercedes GP would not want peeps hanging around...

..yes I had a look on Google Earth and realised it was gated so wasn't suggesting we use their car park - but further along there is open car park area in the same complex serving the other units.

Any takers anyone ..

Hmmm, would need to go down and check, as the barrier may have moved nearer roundabout - that image looks to be from Honda days...

...even so, I guess those carparks would be private property.

There is the town centre, near enough to Costa/Subway/small tea shop, though 3hr limit (never known it to be enforced though - but law of sod)...

Right, looking at dates, I can only do tomorrow :o or next sat (11th).

Josh - how does that fit in your planning?

Location - I'm easy.

Time - PM, with maybe some curry house in the evening?

Unfortunately I can't do tomorrow (4th) but could do the 11th. However, just because I can't make it doesn't mean it shouldn't still go ahead.
Whatever date and time that works with most people I think we should go with  :y

I concur, tomorrow is unachievable.

Likewise, I don't have to be there either.  You do, as the Oxford meet organiser :P

..must admit this is looking decidely dodgy folks  - at the moment it's only Josh having a curry on his own (you don't even eat curry do you Josh ?)  :-/

Not sure what everyone is doing between Xmas and New Year  - but how about one of the midweek days ? - Reading - there's some good curry houses near Winnersh - and plenty of office parks for a meet and greet before. Just a thought... :-?
