ahh...ok thats just down the road from me.....about ten mins.....

i've not long finished a three year electrical installation course at uxbridge....... that bloody collage is a joke...!!!!

I know what you mean - I went there to do the 16th edition but TBH the course was rubbish as well as the tutoring.  No resorces available etc.  Gave Up

Last year went there again (WHY?) to do my maths in an attempt to start on a route into teaching.  This was also an utter joke tutor could not speak clear English, could not operate a white board etc.  A total Joke and will not be going there again.

You are not far away from me in Hayes, I am near Yeading Library.  Cood luck tomorrow or Tuesday with the temp sender.

Hi Nick,

How are you getting on with this?  Have you located the leak as yet and got the temp gauge working again?

I note that you live in Hayes like me.  Whereabouts are you?

Welcome to the forum by the way!  ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Omega Facelift Control wear
« on: 24 September 2006, 19:43:56 »
These are the "soft feel" switches which my mini facelift has.  The heated rear window legend had worn on mine and the heated seat legends were also going.  I got a set off e-bay and fitted the affected switches.  All was well until, one night, switched the lights on and the rear window switch no longer illuminates!

Anyway, it is very common for the legends on the "soft feel" switches to wear at an unaceptable rate....

A blow about not being able to change individual switches in the Facelift.

According to the Omega sales brochure, only the V6 models and the 6 cylinder diesel had servotronic speed sensitive steering.  This is the same for pre and facelift.  However, I only have a brochure on the facelift with the "old" engines.

Omega General Help / Re: Mini facelift help??
« on: 15 September 2006, 09:52:11 »
I may be wrong, but I thought that the mini facelife occured prior to the major face lift where the body and interior was re styled.  As I understand it, the mini facelifts retained the window switches on the centre consol so this is not a good way of identifying them.  I seem to recall that mini facelifts have solid headrests whereas early cars have the "see through" type.

I have been meaning to ask what was involved with the mini facelift as I want to find out if my car is one or not.

Hope that helps.

Just a thought, and probably too late (only just seen this thread) have you checked in the boot or under the seats for the plate(s).  Sometimes, they get taken off and slung either in car somewhere.

Your question has reminded me of a question I have been meaning to ask about mini facelifts............

Good luck with whatever course of action you take!

I believe you can 'purge' the system by turning the wheel to the left a half turn and then right a half turn then all the way left and hold it for 10 seconds, then all the way right for the same.
(Probably best done on slippery surface).

For the slippery surface, drive the front wheels of the car onto a glossy magazine (an old not the wife's curent hello et al! ;D).  This will lower the resistance between the ground and tyre, making the bleeding procedure much easier (and more importantly, less strain on the system and tyres).

I used this to great effect when I fitted PAS to one of my transit vans.

Thanks for all your replies!

It looks like I have a mini facelift then :)

My TC buttin is the older style one BUT I purchased a load of switches from e-bay as some of the legends on mine had worn so I swapped them out (the "soft feel" switches are very bad for this apparently).  In the batch of switches I have a new style TC switch so I will investigate swapping them round.  I prefer the look of the TC switch being in the same bank.

By the way, ignore what the Haynes manual says about removing the switches.  I found it best to remove the heater / climate panel and press on the top clip thereby releasing the switch.  As one of my "new" switches does not light up >:( I will be doing this again in a while and will do a how to at the same time.

If I swap the TC switch, I will do a how to on this as well.

Hi all

Another thread asks about the engine in a suspected mini facelift car which reminded me of a question I have been meaning to ask for some time.  I did not want to hijack that so am asking here.  Hope that is OK!

How do you identify the mini facelifts and what was the list if improvements?

I would like to find out if my car is a mini facelift.

I read elsewhere that one way of identifying them was the solid headrests which my car has.  However, what other items were improved and how can you tell for sure??

Maybe whats wrong with mine the symbols at the top of the panel are very dim when switched on, does it sound as though the bulbs are ready to die.

This is also the case with mine.  Additionally, the air vent control does not light up on the driver's side, whilst all the others do.  Up to now I have just kind of ignored it.  Might have a go with the switch..........

I have had various 'one-man' bleed kits, but always go back to 2-man method for various reasons. Usually, the kit never works as well as expected, esp after first use...

I have to admit that I have found this.  Kit works great then after a year in storage just does not "cut the mustard".  However, I don't have any willing helpers so have to do the work on my own.  Therefore, I just buy a new kit every two years and time all my vans so that their fluid needs doing at the same time.  I have rather an extensive collection of esasy bleed bottles and washer sets!

Still, always work for me just fine.

Just wanted to add my thoughts:

A great guide and excellent pics.  Having pics really does help IMO.

You say that you prefer the two person method.  Have you ever tried the Gunson easyblead?  I have used this device many times with great success, although not, I have to say, on any of my cars as I have always fought shy of bleading an ABS system.  On my Transit vans - it is just the job.

One other advantage of changing the fluid - as we know it absorbs moisture and this can have an adverse effect on the valves of the ABS soleniods.

So, well worth doing all round!

Once again, great guide.

Snoflake is winter mode for the auto trans.  Car starts off in third gear when activated.  It is used for icy conditions although how effective it is I do not know...

To activate, press the snowflake button and it lights up (dark red I think).  Would not use too often though as I am sure it cannot do the auto box much starting off in third all the time.

Upside down sunset does not sound fimilar - it could be for some additional interior lighting that the plod had fitted???

Will check out my manual when I get home and have a look for you.
