Omega General Help / Re: Electric rear windows
« on: 28 August 2006, 09:17:19 »
Glad to hear that you have it sorted and are pleasd with the result.  Also congratulations on your daughter!

I have rusing on my doors which is the common weather strip issue.  I thought that I would just source better doors and fit those.  As my CDX is leather, I will have to change the door cards over though.

Question.  What is involved in removing and fitting the doors?  Haynes says that you hammer out the hinge pins.  Is this correct?  Did you encounter any troubles?

Omega General Help / Re: Aux. Drive Belt
« on: 28 August 2006, 09:13:17 »
I have the V6 and even though my belt does not require changing (yet) I have still invested in one.

For what you get it is simply stunning value.  I paid my £3 by Pay Pal and the very next day it arrived in the post.

To sum up, an excellent product speedily delivered!

If you want one, and I recommend it, user Robin Hood, is selling them.

Omega General Help / Re: (hegos) sensor !!!!!!!!!!!
« on: 25 August 2006, 16:25:12 »
Just had a quick look and looks OK to me.  I am guessing that you have the 2.0 16V engine (the X20XEV).  This, I know, has a heater element.  I don't think that the ones on the V6 (there are two on this engine!) do.

I have read elsewhere that Vauxhall Spares Centre are good so you should be in luck.

Have no idea what the main dealer price is, but £64 looks good to me.

As to resetting the ECU - what you have been told about the battery disconnection is TBH rubbish.  You will need to reset the fault codes not the ecu!  This can be done with a code reader called Tech 2.  Some members on here have this and would possible do it for you.

Gunsons also do a code reader, available in Halfords, but I am not sure about it's ability to reset faul codes.

Hi

For info concerning the Lamba (oxygen) sensor, check out Marks DTM excellent guide here:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1155557056

I would strongly recommend replacing your sensor (assuming that it needs replacement) with an OE unit NOT aftermarket.

Are you sure that the connections are good and that you have a good electrical ground?

Omega General Help / Re: Got my Miror Working
« on: 14 August 2006, 22:55:42 »
Well done on the mirror.

I too, have a long list of jobs to do on my Omega:

I have done the following so far:

1.   Cambelt, Water Pump and Air Con Condensor Change (dealer did this)
2.   Full Valet (and I mean full everything cleaned and even treated the leather)
3.   Fitted a new ICE System including CD Changer in boot (Yet to run wires along door tread plates     though)
4.   Tonight, finally finished my coolant change including fitting a new header tank
5.   Changed all basic filters (air and pollen)
6.   Oil and Filter Change
7.   New Battery

Still a bit more to do but the single thing that has improved the car the most? The full clean and polish!

Good luck with yours.

Omega General Help / Re: Flat battery

I remember being told once that when a modern battery dies you get little or no warning, they just go.
With older ones you would notice it struggling to turn over.

This is indeed the case.  One of my other vehicles was running and starting perfectly and the next day, when I came to use it, dead.  Slight glow from the dash lights but that was it.

I tend to detect a slightly slower starting speed and when this happens I change it straight away.

Omega General Help / Re: Heated Mirrors
« on: 23 August 2006, 15:07:46 »
My Cavalier has the LED tell tale for the heated mirrors, but my Omega does not.  Anyway, as other have said, they come on with the heated rear screen which, by the way, is timed and switches itself off after 10 minutes or so.  A great bit of thinking I reckon!

Just like other things like the one touch windows, pulling the headlight switch out for interior illumination etc...  Only my opinion...................

Cheers for that Marks DTM....  at the risk of making a stupid statement, I guess that mine is OK then and there is nothing to worry about?

I too, have noticed this om my Omega and have been meaning to ask exactly the same question for some time!

I have not tried squeezing the hose leading to the ICV so cannot advise any further with regard to my engine.

However, what I can say, is that I think I have narrowed the hissing down to the black ECOTEC cover on top of the plenum.  I was thinking that there may well be a seal between this and the plenum which needs renewing.

This hissing that we can hear is vacum generated.

I am hoping that a new set of seals will sort this out and, at the same time, improve economy somewhat.

So, does anyone on here know what seals are used for the plenum?  I know about the six "o" rings but are there any others?  If anyone has a list or knows any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm with Laidback66 - my MV6 gets a new load of Vx semi every 4 - 5k (Every 3 months).

Me too - use this change schedule in all vehicles I have anything to do with.

Personally, I would say oil and filter change every 5,000/6 months.

Best thing you can do to your engine to extend life (especially the diesels).

And I second that.  Don't forget that oil not only lubricates, but it cools, cleans and protects.

Omega General Help / Re: DIY cool running thermostat
« on: 11 August 2006, 14:34:44 »
I thought that Antifreeze also has a "water wetter" agent built in??  If so, then is there any advantage to be gained from adding more I wonder?

If you do use and find it better perhaps you could post your results?

Well done Tunnie

Basic maybe, but all vital jobs and to be able to this sort of thing yourself is a real money saver - plus you know it is done right!

If, as Andy B recommends, you start purchasing tools, be warned that this is quite addictive, not to mention expensive.  I do not allow myself to look at tools anymore! ;D

Be sure to keep us updated with your progress.

Omega General Help / Re: RUNNING TEMP
« on: 06 August 2006, 11:03:14 »
B52 - My V6 does not run cold in the winter.  When warmed up, and it always suprises me how quickly it warms up, the gauge indicates about 93oC.   I would suspect your thermostat TBH.

Simon p - My fans cut in at under 100oC - I would say at around 97.  My idle is 500 RPM with climate (air con) off and 650 with it on.  If the fan was coming in at 100 with the car moving at 40MPH, I would suspect a problem withe the rad or at least the air flow over it.  Are (is) there any leaves / dead flies / dust covering it for example??  If not, there could be a low flow rate through it which could be cured by flushing.

Finally, have you checked the antifreeze mixture?  If not strong enough i.e. 50 % Antifreeze and 50% water, this could also cause the engine to run hotter (but not the fans coming in at 40MPH).  Don't forget that antifreeze also has cooling agents in addition to corrosion and freeze protection.

In your position, I would check the air flow over the rad, and blow out any dust, caught flies etc with a footpump.  Then I would flush the rad to check the water flow rate.  Finally, refill the system with a fresh mix of 50% soft water and 50% antifreeze.

Hope that helps and sorry for the long winded post.
