right then,
idler arm is a febi biltstein,
the bolts on the box are indeed solid.
with the engine running or not the clucking is still present.
i am a 100 percent sure of the rest of the steering as i have replace virtually all of it.
also the hotter the car/oil/weather, the more the noises.
today it seems as though the noises are happening at any position of the wheels. full lock, half lock and just off dead center..... :(

its always a good thing to get it skimmed, i have a place over i use he skims the head and pressure tests it before hand to check for fractures. in fact my header tank is getting a little dirty...
175,000mls on a 2.0i 16v...is it going to go my way????

no problems under braking,
just of lot of heavy noises from the steering box when turning the steering wheel from a stand still or in motion.
also with the engine off, there is a lot of play in the box, also clunking, had my hand on the lower arm on the box and can feel it bumping in side....can it be rebuilt or just replaced...

  ???
so you've been here before...
all new suspesion arms loaded with lembforder ball joints and bushes with polyflex.
all new steering ball joints,
new droplinks,
new idler arm,
new rear adjuster arms,
new rear donuts, febi blisteins.
tramlining cured,
all other rear bushes in good condition. surprised really there the originals....1999???
now the real issue is the play in the steering box,
yes its been adjusted and turned left to right to check for tight spots....
also there is no play in the steering wheel or lower column.
the box lost power steering one evening after throwing it into a parking space and nearly putting a citroen c1 through an effing wall....scary it was, thank god for superior omega brakes....
the steering box is cluncking quite loudly into the cabin between twelve and three o'clock on the steering wheel.either direction.
with part time weak assistance.....
now is this a buggered box or not, any one please....
found a couple of rebuilt ones on fleabay for a reasonable price....
here they are 600€ a shot. new... :y

is your brake pedle switch of the 4 pin type, 2 for brake lights 2 for cc

:-[sorry, yes the brake switch is the cylindrical type. pictured in the fitting guide on here, the one where it says do nowt else in this area...

This is getting hard work!!  ::) ;)
Both switches LOOK the same. Cars with or without cruise will have 4 wires to the brake switch. Remove your existing switch & count the number of terminals!

i'll give you my address and you can come round and punch me in the face :-[
going on the fitting guide on the site it looked to me that the 2pin was a smaller slimmer switch.
i didnt know there was around 3 or 4 different models.
as you said they do look the same and i dont have the 4 pin.....
although now feeling little humiliated i now do have an answer.
i was honestly under the impression that i had the 4 pin. other wise i would'nt of wasted anybodys time.but hey.
thanx  :-[ :-[ :y :y

General Car Chat / Re: Fixed penalty notice for a bulb out ?
« on: 05 June 2012, 20:51:13 »
Going on what you have written I am disgusted, but not surprised in the slightest. The modern police are doing there utmost to alienate the general public. I wonder if they where trying for drink driving and where annoyed they did not get it, so "had" to find something wrong.

I wonder how some of these guys sleep at night. Probably very well on there inflated salaries.

Couple of points, was it in town, and did her journey take her on roads that required main beam ? if not I would be complaining. She could argue it would be dangerous to test main beam headlights in town/city before driving off. That said does the car have bulb failure system ? was there a warning on the dash.

Even the corrupt French police give you a chance to change the bulb at the side of the road. Top tip when dealing with French police, never ever pay in cash, allways offer a credit card. 9 times out of 10 they will send you on your way. Now if that is not corrupt officers I don't know what is.

always ask for a receipt, sometimes if you offer the card they'll escort you a card machine.....just dont speed...
